I bought a leopard wrasse (Macropharyngodon meleagris) March 18th. He was in the stores display tank for 3 weeks and I watched him eating frozen Mysis. Brought him home and within 5 minutes he vanished into the sand. Never saw any sign of him for 15 days. Which was this past Sunday. He came out as the lights just started coming on. Picked at rocks a bit and I started thawing some PE Mysis. But he was gone before I could get it in. Monday he was out the entire night swimming around, nothing bothering him. He ate right with the other fish so I thought all was well. Yesterday he never showed up again.
Is this typical? I have lots of pods in my sump, but don't see many in the display. I just want to make sure he's not starving. He looked pretty good when he came out so I assume he's been eating at night or something. I can't find any live food around locally. Should I hatch baby brine daily to put in after lights out? I can find eggs locally. Thanks for any help.
Tank is a 180 gallon mixed reef with 2"-3" of sand. Only other wrasse is a melanurus wrasse. He did chase him at first, which is why he went into hiding. But when he was out sunday and Monday there was zero interaction.
