leopard wrasse care

My brother bought one and gave it to me when he moved. Mines tripled in size eats nori, pellets, mysis, and hunts all day. He's in my 75 gallon and even though I have other wrasses he's the only one that consistently hunts pods. Guess it just comes down to the specimen

They all hunt pods all day and those that survive pretty much have no issues eating many types of food. The biggest issue with them is how they are collected and handled before getting into your tank and not having anything stress them out once in your tank as they try and acclimate to aquarium life. The other issues are the parasites, time zone acclimation, and having something they want to eat initially before getting used to frozen/pellets/flakes etc.

i purchased a leopard about 2 months ago and thought it died until tonight, im watching it swim around and pick pods. really cool to watch and happy its alive and well

leopards are difficult and should only be attempted if you are prepared to take nessicary steps to insure their survival. Many times tank mates are a foe to the leopard.

I have 4 leopards in my tank... The easiest to get eating was an Aussey Macropharyngodon meleagris... Which has also kept better colors than my other meleagris (non Aussey)

I don't find healthy ones to be difficult. But I have largish tanks. All will eat PE mysis immediately.

Just like to chime in that i attempted a female meleagris after going through the primer a few times and found it to be a huge help. was eating mysis straight away and out and about from day 1, didnt have to deal with any of the hiding for weeks bs or food strikes.`

established system, Peaceful tankmates, Straight into DT(some will dispute this one.), and prazipro are all your friends.

I QTed all my leopard wrasses. Put in a Tupperware of sand and several PVC pipe and elbows. 3 treatments of prazipro. I had really good luck with pe mysis and hikari krill.

I QT everything. A properly setup QT for a leopard wrasse is good for many reasons. First set your lights to their schedule from where they came from and slowly adjust it to your time zone. Allows them to get used to the food you feed. Slowly add in pellets if you want to feed pellets. They commonly require prazi treatments and it's safe to dose so you don't infect your tank and dont have to dose you tank which is not as safe. They will also appreciate not being harassed as they accustom themselves to aquarium life.

just added a leopard wrasse to my 400 display.. I have 25 fish, 11 large tangs.. he slept for 2-3 days (maybe came out a litte, better word hid)
would not eat for those days, picked on rock..
i crushed up mysis in my hands so it disperses all over the tank.. This method took 2-4 days, hes eating everytime now, stays around half a day, then bed time.. I plan on adding another 2 while he is still 3 inches.

hardest fish for me to keep was a crosshatch, they ate but would die after 6 months, was really sad

why is the leopard wrasse more in need of prazipro treatment then any other wrasse or fish? i don't have a qt tank so can I just add him to my 150 gal display and not treat with prazipro? I have a large 40w light emperor aquatics uv sterilizer.

did you do any of the parasite treatment after or before you added him to you display tank?

i think the key is friendly tankmates. my current leopard ate the first day i had her when i threw in a fresh freshwater clam i opened up for my butterflies, the wrasse took the first nibble before everybody else and then was eating frozen from that point on. i had one in the past that was was scared of his tankmates and never ate.

i have a bipartitus female.
