alright I'm looking to cut down the amount of walking time from my truck to my fish tanks. I buy natural sea water from the store and usually lug them all over the place.

So, what I want to do is get a submersable pump to do the walking for me. I figure it would need to have a min height of 6' (some stairs) and travel through a hose mostly horizontally up to 50' just to be safe.
any idea what tyoe of pump would be best on a budget?

Now seems like a good time to interject:

I have a Lifeguard Sea Horse 3/4 hp pump with 2 weeks of use on it, $150 shipped. You can check ebay or drsfostersmith for its specs.

granger they sell chemical punps that have nothing but plastic housings and impellers and will be fine with salt water, i use them for pumping hydrocloric acid mixed with water, they run about 80 to 90 bucks

I use a Mag 36 , to pump from my boat to my sump room . I got a super deal on a used one . I also use it to pump water into my holding tanks in the boat . Ted

Seems like alot of work that in the long run only take control away from you and lots of trust on the source.

A RO/DI unit would cure the time and cost with the added benifit of more control.

does anyone think a mag 12 would be sufficient for this?

anyone else? it has to be submersable

Here is a link for Marine Depot's website with a chart for the Mag-drives. It doesn't appear that mag 12 would be enough even with the horizontal flow that you would have. I would go with the mag 36 that should be more than enough. Better to have it and not need than to need it and not have it.
