Hope you like, take care

I don't know why, but everytime I see this pic, it freaks me out, LOL! I didn't know you can take a clam out of the water like that. I've heard that once clams are taken out of water, they need to be "burped". I can only imagine trying to burp that "baby"! ;)

B-

What did the sperm do to the conditions of your system? what is the overall length of your clam as well just out of curiousity.. its beautiful. Does it reflect green blue or yellow when looking from the top down?

Regards-

Hey Basser: I had him out of the water tonight for inspection along with my Squamosa. I don't know about burping clams but bubbles did come out when i returned it to the tank. My Clam is exploding in growth and is now 15" I will just make room for him no matter what. I figure I have 2 years before I have to start ripping out part of my reef. I hope it lives that long.

Captive reefer- its my buddys tank, its a 300 gallon tank, doesnt show any negative effects, it shot out sperm/eggs for more than 20 mins, at like 30 sec intervals. really cool to see

I love big clams, I planned my 400 gallon tank around this monster Derasa.
I've had it for several years, it came from another tank that it outgrew.
Currently 16" long and 14" wide when it's fully opened and still growing fast.

Mine is quickly running out of room on the right side of the tank where he is. I'm thinking about moving it to the middle where he'll have plenty of room to open up and stretch his wings, I hope. Hope the move doesn't hurt it, he's been in the same spot for about 5 years now.

why would you be angry?...... its a simple question. I was wondering if the same clams in peoples reef tank the same ones that are harvested to eat?. You must be a vegitarian. Well guess what, I love plants!!!! SO IM ANGRY AT YOU!!!!

I don't know a lot about Tridacna and Hippopus spp., but I thought that the ornamental trade benefited from the desire of some people to eat these animals? Didn't the desire for these giant clams as food result in over harvesting, which spurred development of their aquaculture?

Very true statment there. When I was in the South Pacific on a couple of the islands the locals were eating them. I also belive that is where the farming of them came from is based off a food.
