Let's discuss the price of gas and SUVs

filling up is all a matter of tank size though. if you have a 20 gallon tank and get 40 mpg you can't come complaining that it cost you $60 to fill up. its the fact that you only have to fill up maybe 2 times a month.

Gas prices will continue to go up, ease down a bit, go back up. When we have been paying $3 plus for a few weeks and it eases back down to $2.95 everyone will act happy! This latest run up will probably stay higher, due to a lack of refining capacity (if you believe the news).

It would behoove everyone to have their cars in tip top shape. Good tires with proper inflation, clean air filters, oil changes, all help you eke out every bit of gas mileage that you can...

I say [profanity] .... wish I could ride a horse to work....

Hey now be nice... lol i have an aveo and bought it just for the gas mileage :) It actually is very roomy inside and everyone that drives it loves it... besides they also got a 5 star rating in a crash study and coe standard with side impact airbags...

just got this email from a relative so i forwarded to everyone on my email list.

Don't pump gas on May 15th.
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of
gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all Americans are asked to not go to a gas station in
protest of high gas prices.
Gas is now almost $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the Internet and
the average car takes about 20
to 30 dollars to fill up.
If all American s did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,200,000,000.00 (that's
BILLION) out of the oil company's pockets for just one day, so please
do not go to the gas station
on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil
industry for at least one day.
If you agree resend this titled 'Don't pump gas on May 15th'--

wait till we have our first big hurricane of the season in the gulf

your gonna wish it was $3 a gallon

these never work becauseyou will just pump the day before or after they still make thier money... only way to hurt them is to not buy the gas at all.

they been talking about that on the radio all day long how it's a stupid idea, you just buy more gas on the 14th or the 16th. no matter what you gotta get where you need to go.

I like the idea of everyone in the US take a weeks paid vacation and stay home. that a show em

i think it would be better to find one particular gas company and get gas from them only and let other companies hurt from this and try to start a gas war

Well, even though I'm not excited about the gas prices I don't complain about it.

Main reason I don’t complain is how can I? Inflation on gas since 1980 has been lower than almost anything Electric, Natural Gas, Food and other household items.

Just a few inflations on the last 27 years (March 1980-March 2007 most updated one) from didn't go back 30 as stats are not available that far back.

Bacon- 168%
Eggs- 101%
Electricity- 106%
Utility Gas- 231%
Unleaded Gas- 83%

Fact remains; there are literally thousands of reasons for increased gasoline prices and it drives me crazy to constantly hear people complaining about 2!

However, I think everyone here could probably look at there day to day lives and find a way to simply cut down on their usage with not only gas, but all our resources (NOT excluding myself)

I personally own a SUV and I think everyone should live within their means. I either need a van or an SUV with 2 sometimes 3 kids, 2 dogs, and all our stuff when we go out of town. Not to mention, the jeeps are very small in comparison and it’s BARELY enough room.

It’s unfortunate for people who have lived in certain areas for long periods of time. However, let’s face it. More and more people are now moving further away (Jefferson County, Illinois, Franklin County, etc…) because they can get much more of a house for the money. However, if you don’t figure in your time, wear and tear on your vehicle, gas costs, maintenance, etc…then I don’t know what to say.

yeah but it sucks cause price of gas effects prices of everything else going up its that nice trickle effect and anymore thats putting a damper on many businesses. So than your eggs bacon and groceries go up every time you order online xtra shipping charges cause of gas higher gas means higher prices on everything. Besides i know companies need to make a profit but how much should an oil company be able to make they sitting good on record profits when middle class and lower class are loosin our butts on personal and small business level.

Sure. I certainly don't disagree with that. However, there are numerous reasons those things increase in cost and it's not just gas prices. On the Bureau of Labor Statistics website, you can get an idea of what all affected the increases and at what time. As I said, I'm not excited about the gas prices but there are things that are more important to me personally. Healthcare Costs/Pharmaceutical Companies, Unemployment Rates, education in our schools, etc...

These are things that have been going on for a LONG time. Not 4,8,12,16 years but longer.

Here are the steps I take when filling up my SUV.

1 - Drive until the little red light blows up.
2 - Push SUV into gas station area...
3 - swipe credit/debit card
4 - start bit#$%ing

Repeat in 4 to 5 days.

I need to get a new ride and was looking into hibrids but I just can't get myself to buy one. I would feel like I'm driving a toy.

How's the tc fearing up in the real world? I was looking at that and the 350Z. Good thing about the Z is that it would be parked for 3 or 4 month in the winter lol.

BK

it would take more money and more energy to buy and make a hybrid, than you would acctually be saving right now. So at the moment you would acctually not really be saving money, or saving energy.

Well, gas is high but, without it, all I have is a thirty thousand dollar stereo! I figure gas is about the cheapest AND most controllable thing on the truck. I have a 99 suburban (it was 32k new but I but for a lot less gently used LOL). between the veh cost itself, the insurance maint and repairs, gas isn't that bad. That said though, I sure wish it would go back down. A trip to the lake for the weekend got pretty expensive now.

I love my bacon AND eggs! gotta have em.

O yes, and i hope that people realize that gas prices are not going up due to a gas shortage. They are going up, because people are paying the prices.

Basically the best thing that people can do is reduce. that will save everything including your money.

althogh recycling is good, it creates more wasted energy than was needed in the beginning. RUDuce
