lets see some nice polyp extension

nice shots how did you get the background black? what lights are on your tank?

Thanks.

As for the black background, I shoot on a tripod with pumps off, that way I can shoot at f14 to f22 using a high ISO, usually 1600. I shoot with a Pentax 200mm maro with or with out a dedicated Pentax AL 2X teleconverter, at 1:1. This means very narrow depth of field. Under the previously mentioned conditions, light drops of very, very quickly (inverse square law), which gives the black background. If I get flare from a hot spot or floating air buble I will remove it in post processing. For simple things like this I use ACDSee Pro 5, I have Photo Shop CS5 but do not use it, especially for simple fixes. Interesting you mentioned it, I like that look very much. I intentionally go for the same look in my outdoor nature shots. Since sunlight is much brighter I have to use a black sheet drape over the background. If you are interested in using this technique for outdoor photos I published an article on this technique in Photo Life Magazine a long time ago. If you are interested I can look up the year & issue number for you.

The tank which is a 72" long, has two (2) 36" 6 bulb Nova Extreme Pros T5 fixtures & 2 X Single bulbs with reflectors. Each half of the tank has 7 bulbs. These are 3 X KZ New Gen, 2 X KZ Super Blue, 1 X KZ Fiji Purple and 1 X Gieseman Pure Actinic. I love this combo, SPS grow like weeds.
