Lets see those angelfish pics!!!!!!

Depends on how the light hits them. If they turn sideways and the light hits them dead on then you can see the braun color but any other time they look jet black.
They are still not eating as far as I can tell and are just hanging out in a overhand together. The smaller ones seems to want to eat but it will not leave the larger ones side.
There are several asian markets around town so I will try jellyfish.
These guys are also ich magnets. They came in with a little bit of ich and they have not been able to shake it yet.

Are majestic angels ick magnets toooo. I got a new majestic yesterday, and I already notice spots on him. Ive got him in QT, but why the heck have all that I get have ick?? I got one from liveaquaria, and the other from a LFS, so I know it is not from the same surce.
Next week im gonna add to the angel list!! Ive got a pair of tank bred flame angels commin. They should be here next Tuesday, so wish me luck!!!

Last summer the Tangs came in with icks and Angels with Flukes. Funny thing is I ordered from different places and it didn't matter unless they got them from the same distributor. I administered prazipro once for Flukes and Chem-marin Stop Parasite twice (I think the recommended 5 days treatment wasn't enough and ick came back and I dosed 8 days the 2nd time).

To be on the safe side put the new arrivals in the QT first.

well ill have to give that stuff a try. ive got it in qt with mild copper, but clowns and angels are sensitive to copper so im going lite. the other fish are back in the main tank after almost a month in qt. I left the main tank with only shrimp... Ive got a 20 gallon qt, im almost sure 3 angels are gonna fight in a tank that small. should i just put dividers, or set up a tub for the flame angel qt??

Do you have some base rocks you can spare to put in there? I've too much stuff in the tank to catch them and I'd to admisnister the medication in the main display last summer. I'd green star, shroom/polyp rocks, xenia, and a bunch of tube & cup corals in there and everything survived except the tube & cup corals. All the pods, worms, shrimps were fine. Oh...I did have a couple of empty hermit crap and snail shells after dosing but I still have a lot of those so I'm not sure if that attributed to the dosing.

Good luck with yours!

Kind of off the topic but I need to know if anyone has had success w/ Breeding Flame Angels? Got a chance to purchase a pair. By the way Great looking pictures!

tpdpercula, I just purchased a pair of tank bred flames. Now I now it will be awhile till they form a true pair again, and then awhile more to mature, but im there, lol. Breeding is the easy part, raising them through the 30-50 day larval stage is another story!!! I hope to get them this next week, around Tuesday... Il post some pics of my new majestic, and flames then. Pairs and harems of angels is a sweet sight to seeee. Them all in a reef is even better!!! :) .

personifers are particularly ich magnets. however the scribbled isn't. their genus has one of the largest husbandry discrepencies i've experienced. awsome fish, just so hard to find. i'm trying to track down a blue-lined now. i want a tank full of the genus, although i doubt i'll be able to afford the holy grail conspicillatus. I've noticed that the personifer's i've had never really reacted well to copper, so it was tough to fight.

I have also wanted a blue line for some time but it seems that the specimans that have been recently collected out of Taiwan are not doing so great so I am going to wait until collection practices improve or they are collected out of China again.
I had a Conspic. a couple of years ago and it was also an ich magnet at first. It would have small outbreaks on and off for the first two months that I had it but it eventually shook it off and did real well.

Well I got the best natural way to fight parisites. I have 4 cleaner shrimp, and 2 neon gobies!!! LOL, I thought that if I couldnt use copper in the main tank I would use natural defenders. How long should the majestic stay in qt?? It has ick now, but after 2 days of copper it is going away fast. I was thinking 3 to 4 weeks, but im not sure if it will take that long...

Technically, he should stay in there for 4-6 weeks. The problem is you don't know when any individual parasites attached themselves, so you don't know when they're going to drop off (even if you can't see them). Copper acts on the parasites that are NOT attached to your fish (just like hypo) so you need to allow for enough time for all of the parasites to drop off and...if your copper concentration is sufficient...to die without reproducing.

Its tough though, I hate waiting! If all looks well I've often removed them after 4 weeks. I don't recommend it but I've done it. :D

Thanks bureau13!! Im in the same boat, but Ill just tuff this one out, lol. Should I qt my flame angels in the same tank? Im not sure 2 flames and a majestic will get along in a 20g. They have been in a persons aquarium for a year, so im not sure they will have any parisites... I was thinking just a full 15 min FW bath, then put them into the main tank. How does that sound??

Hi Laura, I remember! Unfortunately, I'm not thinking of getting rid of him...he died mysteriously, for no apparent reason. I later heard that there was some talk that the place where they usually get those fish may be starting to use cyanide, so that may have been a factor.

The Blue face is actually the zoanthid eater that I'm considering moving, but he seems to have stopped doing that, at least for now (and I do have a few left if he really wanted them).

I also agree with you on the FOWLR...at some point I want to do that, there are just too many interesting fish that I can't have right now, it drives me nuts!

Oh I'm so sorry to hear he died and especially not knowing for sure what went wrong. I must have misread your earlier post about the Blue Face.

Yeah, the ones that are not reef safe are the exciting ones. I bought a juvi emporer just getting ready to change. He's awesome, great personality but, with my luck his favorite food will turn out to be the coral I can't live without,

Its hard to say if they'll all be OK in the 20 gal. Definitely either have good, fully cycled filtration or plan on frequent major water changes. As far as them getting along...I don't know. I've never had large angels and dwarf angels together, do they consider each other to be the same type of fish, i.e. "the competition?"

Beautiful photos and a great thread.

My LFS has a gorgeous Flame Angel for sale. I know of the hit or miss reputation of the angels in a reef tank, but I see many photos here of angels in tanks filled with SPS and clams. Is there any way of predicting whether a Flame angel will nip at them? The LFS Flame has been heartily eating prepared foods for six weeks, and I'd hope that it has become accustomed to such a diet.

It truly is a hit and miss affair I'm afraid. Even if a fish starts out reef safe, it can change with time and decide to start munching!

but a flame should be ok with SPS and clams...... its the usual story - LPS etc are most at risk.
