Let's see your rare wrasses!!!!

I just put in a splended Initial Phase (Cirrhilabrus cf Lanceolatus) pintail in the acclimation box in my DT. The current sub male turns shades of blue like I have never seen and does a flashing dance. The rhomboid did some checking out but overall could care less. I plan on leaving the female in the acclimation box for a little while.

Where is a good site to get some of these wrasses off of? All of these will not go in my current tank but I would love to get a pair or two in my 90g that is lightly stocked at the moment until I move and upgrade to a 375. Also, would keeping multiple pairs be ok? I've seen several sites selling females but no males. Would one of the females turn into a male in time creating a pair?

I'm loooking for :
Pair of Lineatus Wrasse
Pair of Rhombids Wrasse
Pair of Flame Wrasses
African Exquisite Fairy Wrasse
Potters Leopard Wrasse
Hawaiian Cleaner Wrasse

Nav=amazing collection. Although the blue tang is out of place in your $200 minimum per fish collection.
Take out that and the flame wrasses and its a minimum of $500 a fish.

Yes, females will transition in a closed system, especially in the presence of other wrasses. Two females would likely make a pair, but it's also possible both females will end up male. In my experience, that's almost a given with enough wrasses in the tank. For this reason, I don't mess with pairs too much these days; I just keep one specimen of any given species amongst the others. If it's a female or a young juvi, it will end up a terminal male eventually amongst the others.

Skip the Hawaiian cleaner wrasse; not a good aquarium species.

And to follow up on Hunter's post, a M-F pair of C. jordani almost always becomes two males, which never ends well. Do yourself a favor and just get a juvi or female (both to save on cost, and they ship better than terminal males).

Anyone have any experience with a Cryptic six line wrasse Pseudocheilinops ataenia?...
I want someone for my mixed 75.....I really like the six line but have heard it can be aggressive.....my Lfs says that this cryptic six line is much less aggressive.....anyone?.

They are incredibly passive, think firefish. When they say crypic they mean cryptic, think Liopropoma shy. Definately do not have the personality of a 6-line. You can keep them in groups which is pretty sweet, just make sure they have room to swim through the rocks without having to expose themselves.

Here is one of mine

Ok. Would normal cleaner wrasse be fine or should I just skip them altogether?

Its hot topic. Alot of people feel they perform a vital task for healthy reefs and should not be removed. Some studies show that populations remain stable with harvesting but its pretty much universal that they VERY SELDOM fair well in captivity.

I would skip them.

Cleaners do well in a large system (200+ gallon) with angels and surgeonfish to clean. Also, not all fish accept cleaners.

Try a neon goby as a cleaner.

Yeah I have a cleaner wrasse in my 550g for over 2 years now. If anyone is thinking of purchasing one, make the store feed flake and if he won't eat flake I wouldn't buy it. Mine even picks off the algae clip I hang for my tangs. Neon goby or even cleaner shrimps would prob be a better choice for sure on a smaller system.

Not rare I guess but here is my cleaner wrasse

So I got my self a pair of flame wrasses. I could not pass up on the price since I'm able to buy wholesale. The other wrasses in the tank are a Mystery and a Cebu Pylei. The Flames went in last night along with a Potters Angel and a Magnificent Foxface. I current see the Female as she is on the side of my tank but I only saw the male when I put him in and when he was sleeping. Do you think I should try to catch the Mystery and put him in an acclimate box to let the Male flame settle in more or should I let it be for a few days before I take action to see what happens?

Ok. I'll try to get him when the lights are out. I still see the female, but she moved to the spot where the male was sleeping. So I'm hoping that he is back there relaxing and she found him. I will post pictures of the pair later tonight
