Just wanted a place to see all the wierd sponges out there.

This is the mother that I got the purple one from:

Come on- lets see 'em!

Great shots and great sponges!

Nothing weird or terribly cool- but I like this shot with a tiny little window into the inside of one of my sponges-

I've had most of them from between 1 to 3 months with no degeneration except a little on the purple one. I got them all from my LFSs. Oh and by the way, nice orange sponge. It looks like my light blue one with those holes (except the color of course).

Here's a pic of a sponge that I will be getting a frag of on sunday, and I may get a frag of aussie spider sponge at a local swap coming up.

Metallic Navy Blue Sponge:
(NOT MY PIC)

KEEP THE PICS COMING!

I really like the little blue sponge, I just got a frag of aussie spider sponge, does anyone know special care for it, I'm not finding much online.

Well thanks to Derek at DEREK`S REEF SHOP I now have my Blue Sponge in my tank 2 little pieces were broke off but they are set as frags now just getting into sponges I like the shapes and colours

It is impossible to know exactly what it is without dissolving some of its tissue in acid in a lab and then examining the reaction. All I know is that it came from Jakarta.

I don't have a photo of my last sponge, I change my tanks around way too often (as I catch new animals, or something incompatable, my new love is sponge eating angels) but here it is before I collected it.

it was off the coast of West Palm Beach, below 80 ft on a finger of reef, it was collected as I swam down the reef toward the sand which was just over 100 ft. It is here, at the edge of the reef where the pygmy angels and atlantic longnose butterfly live, along with pearly jawfish in the summer, so that is where I love to dive.

I wish there was a place here in Nova Scotia Canada that I could pick up some sponges as there are very few times that any sponge makes it to a LFS as I would like too have a few more of different colours and shapes for my 30g nano reef tank

Hi Bongo -- you might want to do some research on that metallic blue sponge before getting one. Another thread (not linkable, sorry) had several posts saying that it was fast growing, hard to eradicate, grows over & kills corals, & takes over entire tanks.

I already got it and it grow like crazy, I love it! It is in my seahorse tank and has plenty of room to grow. Plus I can sell really small pieces for a fortune where I live.

That's a nice BIG blue sponge! Mine is well on its way to that size.

Here's my latest edition:

We just picked up a nice size sponge of the same, there is little if any info on them any place and they have just started arriving here in the states, in fact they may have recently just been discovered and may actually be more photosynthetic than a filter feeder according to some marine biology people we know

Yeah, I'm being led to believe through numerous sources that it is actually a type of macro algae. First of all it is green and fleshy inside. Second of all my turbo snail made a dinner out of it. And third of all, the more light it gets, the faster it grows.
