lets talk heaters

How many gallons do you have?
What heater(s) do you have? Brand and wattage.
Where in your system are they located?

My plagerism continues.....

I have always used Ebo Jagers. The $20-30 premium over other heaters is well justified by how reliable and safe they are.
In my 75g reef it was located in my sump, sitting parallel along the wall. As a rule of thumb I usually get the heater that is 1 size bigger than designed, simply so it can keep the temperature more stable.

125g . Running 2- 250w aqueons, both in DT right now, putting in new sump and fuge here soon, and they will be moved to the sump. Earlier this week I was running exploding stealths.

I also like the Aqueon heaters. I've had a glass one for quite a while, but the latest one I bought is shatter proof. The main heater is a 200 and the other (backup) is a 150.

I hate heaters..they all suck..You would think with a the billions in this industry someone could make a reliable heater..

150ish gallons
300w, 200w finnex heaters in DT
300w finnex in refug(the backup/ heats NSW as I add it to sump/refugium)

I not overly impressed with them and one of these days will fine a better setup.

140 gallons, 2x250 Blueline titanium heaters controlled with the Blueline controller. Does a decent job, the temp fluctuates about +/- 0.5 degree.

Ive always used ebo heaters but most heaters will do what you want when used with a contoller. that being said I have never used a controller on my tanks. I have never had an ebo jager fail on(or off). with my new rig I think I might make or buy a controller for it. controllers will almost always fail with a high reading so you dont have to worry about boiling your tank. A good one will have some sort of alarm if the thermocoupl or rtd fails

I use whatever's onsale at DFS every year in the christmas shopping season... I agree, heaters SUCK and they all fail on a long enough timeline. That's why I buy a new one every year. We spend thousands on livestock, and let a ~$20-30 heater kill them all?!?!?!? No thank you. Christ, I spend like $150 every two years on halide bulbs, I can't spend 1/5th of that on a heater every year? Been doin this forever and haven't had a heater fail on me yet. Once I get my new one it goes in the tank, the "old" one is placed into backup, the previous backup becomes my mixing heater, and the previous mixing heater becomes part of the landfill in niagara falls. FWIW, I use a 250watt heater on my 65g, seems to work fine

I'm using one 200w no name junk heater on my 120g total water volume system cause I shaddered my last one after not unplugging it during a water change. It is located in the drain/skimmer section of my under tank sump and keeps my tank at a pretty constant 78 degrees.

Mark, I hate to say it but, I REALLY miss my basement sump setup... A LOT.

Also running x2 250W Blueline Titanium heaters with and Apex controller in my 150G (located in basement sump). Havent had any problems with them.

My personal experience is with Ebo Jagers. No complaints. I'm not sure what wattage I was running. Had a bunch of em in the huge overflow on my 180, also on controller. This time around I'm planning a couple 300s in the sump. Brand is yet to be determined.

tell it like it is!

tell it like it is!

don't hate the truth....

regarding heaters:
I can't remember exactly what I have. They're old. There's two of them. I think one is a 100w and one is a 75w but I'm not sure- they're encrusted with critters so I can't see them.

I just checked mine out in the garage. 250w, 150wx2 used to heat 285-290 gallons. Never an issue.

As for the basement sump. I do have a nice set up in the adjacent room with sink etc. I just don't have drain, sink, or other options in the basement. I'm hoping a little adjustment to the pluming and a direct drain out of the sump, will ease water changes.

Having it all in one place will make maintenance easier while the rug rats crawl around. Getting an hour to myself in the basement is an impossibility for a few years.

The guys were here yesterday to measure the stand. There will be a lot of room underneath, with 2 huge doors in front, and a removable side panel for bigtime access. It's the best I can do.

visi therms by marineland . they will replace no questions asked for 7 yrs? customer service was friendly and human. pretty easy to find
