Levamisole In-Tank Treatment for AEFW

my 1st experience w/ prohibit is as follows. dosed 5.7g for 330g. turned off skimmer &
carbon. added air stones for more gas exchange ,1hr. basted corals. saw total 3 aefw fly off 1 coral only. i've been ripping & dipping this yr. so i know i do not have too many. they must have been stunned because they were not wiggling . fishes went hiding. saw bristle worms float by. they were motionless as were brittles. 6 hr. hook everything back up. change 50 gal water, see bristle worms twitching and coming back to life as well of pods. fish still hiding except for 6 line wrasse ,which looks well fed. snails look lethargic
Next day siphon out the numerous dead brittle stars. fish still hiding somewhat. sps
look normal. snails still not with the program. will repeat dosing next week.
Sooner or later dislodged aefw will be eaten by my wrasse.

So, after dose #3, 1 helfricks firefish never came back out from hiding. Corals are looking much better, don't know if it's from basting or from treatment. Found two AEFW's on the front glass the next morning! Ugh! Would like to put a camel shrimp in and try that method. Just wouldn't b able to get him back out without tearing the tank apart! Haven't seen my fire shrimp since starting treatment, so, prohibit would most likley take him out also!

FWIW, My fire shrimp survived the OD of Levi and the subsequent treatment regimen. I lost it to an unrelated incident afterwards.

I do not have any fire fish, but I do have a pair of Orchid Dottybacks, the female was very small at the time and she and all my fishes survied just fine. They were definitly freeked out during the dosing, but always came back out in a day or so.

Update for week 5: dosed 1.8 gram of levi in approximately 60 gallons. Captured a large flatworm after basting. It is still alive, in a cup of tank water with Levi, over 24 hours later. The cup, unlike the tank, didn't have GAC or a skimmer running after six hours, so I can assume the Levi concentration remains higher in the cup than the tank. Perhaps the only benefit from the Levi treatment comes from weekly basting of the corals?

Update, came home today and my third firefish was out swimming!!!:) ordered 50 blue leg hermits to help out with this algea problem. They should be here tomorrow!

got my prohibit in the mail yesterday. gonna treat this weekend, hope i have good results. will update after 1st treatment.

All the flat worms (bid and small) died after 1.5 hrs when I used 1 salifert spoon of prohibit in 250 ml of water

Glad to hear your fish is OK!

I definitely had a surge of algea growth following the treatement. I feel like the tank is settling back into the groove now. It's easily been six weeks since I last dosed the tank. The term "mini cycle" comes to mind to best describe what to expect.

Well came home yesterday to find that my tank crashed. All acro's are gone! Guess I won't b doing my forth dose tomorrow morning!:(

scoly

Wow! Hate to hear that!

When you say crashed, what happened? RTN?

Did anything else go wrong equipment or chemistry wise? After seeing mine survive a 15 g dose I'm skeptical it was stricktly due to the Levi.

After my Levi OD, while I was letting the tank get over that event, I had a heater burst dumping toxin into the system. That episode cuased me to loose several SPS, all my brittle stars, blood shrimp, hermits, and many snails.

Not sure what the cause was, came home from work and most all acro's were brown. Called Ros_sco(who has been like a mentor to me since I started sps about 5years ago), called the owner of a lfs, who also has a electrical business,we checked everything we could think of, nothing conclusive. Mag was a little lower than normal (around 1250). Started mixing a waterchange for the next day. Came home from work yesterday and pretty much all sps was dead or on it's way out! Packed up all high end Zoas, all scoly's, rhizo, acans, and micros and took them to a friend's house to try to save them. Acro's were just to far gone. Emptied out brs dual chamber reactor, filled with new carbon( no gfo), did a waterchange. Gonna do anougther one tonight. Some snails died, all fish look fine.

That sucks!

Was there any indication of an impending crash?
Just that some of the SPS were brown the night before. Tested everything, nothing tested off, so I started mixing water for a waterchange after work the next day. Didn't make it that far.
