Levamisole In-Tank Treatment for AEFW

Going to start my treatment tonight. Got the pure Levi powder. Going to dose 3.3 grams into my 200 gallon system (based on 5 grams/300 gallons and the packet is 46.8 grams of Levamisole powder). Going to change my filter socks before treatment and turn off my GAC reactor. I have plenty of fresh saltwater, but will probably just leave the medication in the water column and just keep up with my regular water change regime.

Does this sound right?

Thanks,

Scott

Just make sure the you do the right math bud I have the 100g bottle which of that 100g 7.5g of it is levi if your active ingredient is more than 7.5g then you need to redo your math

James404,
About to pull the trigger and order from Foye's.. I have a 180 with a 50 (little lessthan half full)gallon sump. I'm estimating my water volume to be 220 gallons give/take. Using your calculations I estimated that I will need 7 bottles of the Levamisole from foye's to treat my tank 4 times. I'm looking at 157 pills per treatment.. Can you please validate that I didn't make any mistakes with my math. Also, just verifying that I would be doing 1 treatment per week.. Thanks!

My second dose is coming tonight...However, my corals are getting so pale in color...I believe the starch as carbon source makes my tank so clean, super ULNS..(NO3 0 and PO4 is 0 by Hanna)...My corals are starving I believe and I have been feeding my fish more and feeding my corals more and color is starting to come back...

Question:
Should I keep dosing Levi tonight or hold off for a little while when corals color starts to come back more?
Should I wait and order pure PROHIBIT and dose this instead?

PS: Saf, where did you get your pure Levi (PROHIBIT)?

Thanks

I try to decant the liquid, but leave the white powder in the bottom - I think this is mostly binder.

So, last nite, 4 days after treatment number 1, I noticed fresh small, round white patches on my sarmentosa - a coral that had not been the target of aefw ever - at least that I have noticed. In any case, I wondered what could be causing it - I am sure I don't have red bugs, so I got out the turkey blaster and let go. Sure enough, a flatty came flying off - 4 days after treatment - and not a little one either, this was an adult. So I'm thinking this was most likely due to either: 1) my dosage being on the low side (my tank is a 36 and I based my dose on 30 gals actual), or 2) some flat worms may be deep in fissures/tunnels inside of the live rock until lights are completely out. So, to attempt to remedy this, I will...

1) Increase my dosage computation to encompass 34 gallons of total system water (I have no sump, the only additional water is in my skimmer, which is turned off during treatment, so it is not a factor). So then, my total dosage goes up from 20 to 24 pills.

2) I will start my treatment an hour after lights out, turning my moonlights completely off.

Hopefully, these changes in dosing protocol will lead to eradication of these vermin!

If you had used the PROHIBIT product, your results may have been different as it is a more pure form of Levamisole. I know my results are in par with Bax's. I will be doing my display in the coming up days.

So far so good all around.

I just did my first dose of Levamisole. I used 3.3 grams of the powder that I got from qcsupply. So far my observations have been seeing some of the small serpents stars floating in the water column, some snails acting a little quirky, and some of my sps sliming up a little. Fish and corals all seem fine. My total gallons is 200.

how big are your colonies jcoletti? i think that alot of times with large colonies- something where the inside of the coral around the base gets no flow may be a spot where the flatworms hide and not much of the leviminsol gets in there- keep trying and follow up with another treatment- next time when the levi is in there baste the corals or hit them with a powerhead and see if any fall off coral and shrivel up in the water.

This is the reason why you do 4 treatments. :D

That's the funny thing - I did baste. My colonies are medium-sized, grown out from 1" nubs to 3-4" wide small colonies. Either my dosage was a bit low (which I doubt), or perhaps they were under the colonies up inside of some viscles/tubes/holes. Either way, I think I'll dig out one of my spare Korallias next time and do some serious blasting. 2 more days until treatment number 2.

I followed Bax's recommendations and saw flatworms falling off after 20 minutes of treatment. The Levamisole did not affect my fish, shrimp, snails, or hermit crabs. I performed the three treatments a week apart and have not seen a problem since. I did the treatment in tank as well. I did lose a few smooth skin SPS corals during the treatment but everything is doing great.

Exciting news! Good to hear! What product did you use?
