Levamisole In-Tank Treatment for AEFW

Good James...Let wait for few weeks or months to see if they return...Hope not...:)

Update about my tank...Since my skimmer not skimming very good last couple of days (I should have cleaned beckett skimer head), the tank becomes cloudy like one overdose vodka, the water is very slimy too( I felt it last night when I cleaned my skimmer)...I think my skimmer didnot skim out the filler material fast enough which is mostly starch which is a source of carbon, like rice...and this results in overdosing carbon...What do you guys think? Should I change water more like 50% to remove this filler material?...

Interesting, how did you find out it was starch? I havent noticed any of those issues with my dosing. Doing large water changes may cause further stress to your corals/livestock. I would keep running carbon, perhaps change it out more frequently.

My wife is a pharmacist and she told me all the time all medications, the filler materials is starch in high quality form....Of course she is not 100% sure about this medication...From what I have been observing the tank, it has a white film on glass, and on the pumps as well...Since my tank is zeovit tank, it has been running on bacteria which might consume this more readily...I have only dosed the basic four at a minimum doses to reduce any stress on corals...
Let me google and see if starch thing is accurate...So you would not recommend changing water much...OK, I will wait and see...

James, here is one example

Raw Materials

To produce hard aspirin tablets, corn starch and water are added to the active ingredient (acetylsalicylic acid) to serve as both a binding agent and filler, along with a lubricant. Binding agents assist in holding the tablets together; fillers (diluents) give the tablets increased bulk to produce tablets of adequate size. A portion of the lubricant is added during mixing and the rest is added after the tablets are compressed. Lubricant keeps the mixture from sticking to the machinery. Possible lubricants include: hydrogenated vegetable oil, stearic acid, talc, or aluminum stearate. Scientists have performed considerable investigation and research to isolate the most effective lubricant for hard aspirin tablets.

Great thread! I have been battling AEFW for months. I just ordered some levamisole (46.8 gm) packet for my 200 gallon tank. I also ordered a digital scale to measure out the dosage based on 5 gm/300 gallons.

Second dose today. I haven't seen one flat worm, not even the forktail ones which I always saw on my glass. Wish me luck.

Round 2 for me is starting today. First up is the QT.

Am I making any changes since the first time around? No except I will be doing a small water change to keep the nutrients down.

The display is coming up in a few days. It hasn't missed a beat. Everything alive and well!

Hello all I am also doing my first treatment today I got the 100g bottle of powder my system is 200 gal total water I did the math and came up with 44.4g of powder am I correct? With my math correct me if I'm wrong

Thats correct according to my calculations, I would just be sure you are as accurate as possible on your water volume. If you are unsure, figure on the lower side.

Well everything is looking good today. No loses and corals look happy. Can't decide whether I should do 4 more treatments or 2. Im thinking four to be on the safe side. My tri colors and milli's are all getting their colors back so I know they are happy again.

Vlad & Clowndude

Excellent news!

Keep it up!

QT Results #2: No deaths to corals or fish. The snail is still alive. Polyps super extracted. Its like they have never felt like this in a long time. The most positive is that there wasn't any decline in coral health, which meant that something killed these buggers. And that something is most likely Levamisole.

Actually, even my display 'feels' better. I can tell with the little things that are being displayed by the corals.

Vlad

That's great news, and the news I'd have expected for all from my experience with the Levi treatment.

Clowndude

Do 4 treatments ... you need to! :uzi:

James

Let's request that every one continues to state their Levi source when discussing dose in a post.

For example, if anyone has pure PROHIBIT Levi Powder and doses 44.4 g to 200 gallons there will be NOTHING LEFT ALIVE! Products with less concentration will require move weight ... obviously. But a reader just scannig for a dose ratio may make a huge error. Bad press will only slow the acceptance of an otherwise worthy treatment.

... I know how stressful an overdose can be, as that's how I overdosed my tank. I used the fresh water dose accidently the first time and it was very harsh on my system. The dose we are using here is 1/3 the fresh water dose. A dose of 44.4 g of Vermisol may be just fine, but the same dose of the purer PROHIBIT product would be 3x the fresh water dose! :thumbdown

Bax,

I plan on doing another 2-4 more treatments followed up by monthly treatments for a couple of months just to be 100% sure they are gone.
