LF: 48" 8bulb+ T5 (Tek, ATI, etc)....

Hey all. I'm toying with the idea of building a Frankenlight. Looking for a 48" T5 fixture to act as a host. Not looking to spend a ton so a standard Tek 54w x8 would be ideal. Tek Elite or ATI sunpower I would also consider if the price is right but the more expensinve, the more reluctant I'll be to hack it up. Let me know if you have one or know of one available. Powermodules are out because they are too slim. 10 bulb fixture would also be good assuming it was deep enough!

I thought about adding some T5 retros but since my lights are hanging in plain sight, but I wanted to keep the clean finish. I'm done with ghetto tanks;)

Thanks all!

Before anyone asks, I'm perfectly happy with my Radions. Color and growth is good. However, I do feel like the T5s may add a little spread/coverage and even out the lighting.

Saw that thanks. Not worth the drive but I'll be in that area in 2 months if he still has it I'll definitely snatch it up, but that's exactly what I want lol!

Call Living Reef- Flor had a used 8 bulb Tek I was thinking about buying. They are in Oakland Park. This was a few weeks ago though.

I had the above light lined up and someone swiped it from me. So I guess I'm still looking. Thanks in advance!

Darn. There was one for sale at the frag swap yesterday with bulbs $250. I forgot which vendor it was though.

LOL, I talked to them today. One of my buddies passed along the info but it sold. So I missed 2 of them over the weekend:deadhorse:

Thanks though, be on the look out everyone, and don't get any funny ideas:uhoh2::worried:

I am in the process of making a rack that will hold my 8 ati t5s and my 8 radions call me if you want...will post up picks as i assemble

If ya don't mind me asking, how are you going to set the "Fraken-Fixture" up?

I recently modded my Tek 8x54, and I'm impressed with the results.
2 Lumia 5.2's, and 6 T5 bulbs.

I ran everything at first, but it proved to be too much light (fixture about 6-7" above the water line). Now I run the LED's the full light cycle, and only 2 T5's (Blue Plus) for 5 hours a day. I even got to the point of turning the White channel down to 40% power on the LED's.

I'm extremely impressed with the LED's. The color rendition overall with the whites at 40% is extremely close to a 14k Pheonix look. As the big kicker, when just the LED's are running, I get 2 single point sources of light for that halide like shimmer. Even with the 2 T5's running, they provide a great shimmer to the tank.

Sounds awesome. Wouldn't be an issue for me if I had a canopy or rack wasn't visible. But my light hangs out in the open so it has to look finished.

LEDs work. I'm getting really great color. Growth is hard to comment on because I started with all nubs lol. I plan on retrofitting my Radion Pros down the middle. My plan was to do 2-4 bulbs. If I can do 4 it would be 2 B+, C+, P+. Maybe an ABS?

I'm looking to fill out the lighting, increase spread, and supplement the white spectrum, although that sounds backwards, lol. I was thinking 4-5 hrs T5 to cover my bases.

Bump. Still looking but Matt has me seriously considering building my own lol.

TIA! Free awesome IOU frag finders fee:lol2:

Just bought one off Craiglist for a DIY just like you. Not sure if he has more but before I left he told me he had other stuff but I didnt inquire. Maybe worth a shot and he is local in Weston.
