LF KZ Fiji Purple t5

Anyone know of an LFS around Buffalo that carries this t5 bulb? Tried to go with a purpleish geissman pure actinic the past few weeks and it's just not giving me enough red. Figured I'd check to see if anyone in the area sells it before I just order it online.

UVL 75/25 is quite pink.

The UVL superactinic is pretty purple, but more on the blue side.

I've seen the fiji purple running (yesterday as a matter of fact) and its pretty bright. reminds me of the 75/25 a lot, but its a different bulb entirely.

That's what I understand from a bunch of research about them. The only other comparable bulb from what I gather was the ATI Procolor, which was discontinued. Looks like I may have to just order this thing. It will be making a HUGE difference on my four-bulb setup.

Wow, I have been looking for them too. Not to be found anywhere at the local shops here in Syracuse. I may have to special order them. I'm running 60" t5's that length is a pain to find in general.

All Giesemann Bulbs currently

From Back to Front:

Actinic+
Pure Actinic
Aquablue Special
Actinic+

The pure actinic was the most recent addition, in my hopes that because it was a purple tinted light, that it would provide the same spectrum as the Fiji purple or ATI procolor. Such has not been the case so far. My reds and oranges have suffered since it's addition, it's just too blue. I've been really closely following the t5 Q&A thread run my Grimreefer. For a four bulb t5 setup with the types of corals I stock (Mostly LPS and some SPS), I was recommended by grim and several other reefers to finally go with this setup:

Actinic+
KZ Fiji Purple
Actinic+
Aquablue Special

I'm sure you've seen the thread, but if you haven't it's worth a read through for anyone with t5 bulbs running, whether you have all t5's or use them in combination with halides. Grim has put in research on every brand available and answers everyone's questions by responding right onto the thread.

As far as oranges and reds are concerned, you are right about the giesemann pure actinic not working all that well. In my experience running that bulb, it dominantly highlights greens.

My oranges show up best under 22k bulbs. (giesemann actinic plus, ATI blue plus, Aquascience 22k, Current Usa 460 actinic (worst of the 4 listed IME).)

And as far as daylights are concerned, the ATI daylight 15k (aquablue special) brought the oranges out in my tank better than the Giesemann 15k (aquablue plus.)

As far as t5 goes and LPS, I highly recommend raising the t5 pretty decently high off the tank. A friend of mine uses 4 39watt t5s over a 100 gallon rubbermaid tub:

bulb order:
actinic plus 22k
pure actinic
aquablue plus
actinic plus 22k

The light is hanging about 18 inches off the water surface, and the LPS colors are out of this world. and the polyp extension on the corals was amazing as well. I am curious to see PAR readings in that tub.

just a bit of food for thought.

this is great info guys...That huge thread gave me a headache lol I will try what you guys are doing..I also need better light for my reds..

This is exactly my experience. Looking through a picture progression of one of my rainbow corals the other day, I realized that since putting in this bulb, the red/orange had given way to green quite a bit

bulb order:
actinic plus 22k
pure actinic
aquablue plus
actinic plus 22k

This is the exact combo I have now. I will probably get the Fiji and see how it goes for a few weeks. I feel like I'm only one bulb away from the right combo for my corals right now, because the color for everything else is great. I'll be sure to document my progress with some nice crappy cell phone pics!

Also one more thing.

As far as what the eye sees (not PAR) the aquascience blue 22ks are pretty bright. far brighter than the giesemanns. However, I've read that ATI's have the most par.

I guess its whatever you're going for.

good luck, and thanks for the link,
dan

I have a new unused KZ fiji purple and a new ATI aquablue special that I'd be willing to trade for a UVL actinic white and UVL 75.25 (if both are available locally).

I ordered tons of bulbs a while back. The discount was great, but I should have waited until I was totally locked in on my color before I bought in bulk. Having both the KZ and actinic white is a bit too red for me. Swapping the uvl actinic white for the ati aquablue is a bit too blue (with 4 ati blue+'s).

Hi Ben I do not have any for trade, but I would be interested in buying those two bulbs from you

KZ fiji purple
ATI aquablue special

send me a PM

thanks..Todd
