I got a stock biocube and keep my house around 72 degrees, keep the back door off of the biocube, and my tank temp is running 85-88 degrees. :/

I suggest putting your lights on a timer and not running both of them at the same time for very long. I have there biocubes and that's what I have to do. Chillers are very expensive. They're mini AC units. You'd be looking at a few hundred dollars at least.

I've tried quite a bit with the lighting schedule, taking the back lid off, putting a fan directly on the water, etc. I can't get it below 84.

I convinced the wife to buy a chiller today. :/ She wasn't happy.

Is the tank in front of a window/glass door? Those temps don't seem right with house temp at 72.

I was thinking the same thing. My biocube was always at 78 with the a/c on 72 and it was bone stock with power compacts and all! Hell, I'd suggest getting an led light setup and replacing the power compacts in it as well as changing out the pump before putting a chiller on a biocube. Seems like an awful lot of money to spend on an issue that shouldn't be there in the first place.

I agree I had 29 bio for years and I keep my house at 75 and never saw about 79 in the tank. i would be looking at your pump or a bad heater or something else. What temp does it come down to at night? I have an 8g stock with stock lights and one fan out and I still never see temps above79. Something else is wrong.
