So I had two Aiptasia and used AiptasiaX to kill them. Thing is I believe the medication is exapired since I purchased it over 1.5 years ago. I medicated several times and both kept returning. Well now I have ~5 more that have sprung up. I am thinking about the nudi since peppermint shrimp are hit and miss. I don't like putting chemicals in my tank however I am open to a kalk mix..... Any experience with this?

Thanks

I have heard it works but the nudibranches themselves can be hard to source at time.

Jorell at Club Reef said he was getting in some peppermints that definitely eat aptasia, something about the atlantic ones will eat aptasia but the indo/pacfici ones are hit or miss.

Good luck

Aptasia X is, in essence, Kalk paste. I'm not sure if it can expire or not, but if you do not get it in the mouth before they cover up, in can "not work".

A lot of peppermint shrimp will eat other food sources before aptasia which is why a lot of people have "poor luck" with peppermint shrimp. If they are hungry, and have nothing else to eat, they will go to town...

I have really had a lot of luck with aptasia x, so that is what I go with, but I wish you luck. I know it can really be a scourge to deal with!

So I just bought two peppermint shrimp today from ocean floor because I had a small aptasia growing on my dendro colony. I put them in at 230 aptasia gone already ;-)

They have quite a few there and they are only 7.99, grab a couple and I think they may help you out

That is the issue with the biggest aptasia I have, I can't inject the solution into his mouth based how he is attached to the rock! Frustrating. This is why I was leaning towards nudi.

Maybe I'll try club reef with their peppermint shrimp.

Anyone have a nudi I can buy? I thought I heard a thread not long ago about a nudi that is shared with the group? Maybe that never took off

Did you just see what I wrote? I bought 2 peppermints TODAY and they ate my aptasia already. They are at ocean floor and they are HUNGRY :-)

Just get a few peppermint shrimp and pay no attention to them and they will devour it. I heard its always a hit or miss but both times I needed them they worked on it once comfortable.. Took a total of two days

Best way to get peppermint shrimp to eat aptasia is to actually injure the aptasia. Best way to injure on I have found is boiling some RO water and using the aptasia x syringe and inject the aptasia with it. It will semi melt it. When I did this the peppermint shrimp ran over and ate the aptasia, and once they had the taste they cleared my tank in less than a week. And I had a very large infestation.

A couple hours is not enough time to even speculate. I can brush aptasia with a finger and have it shrink down to near invisible. You might not see it for two days after that. Check back in a month or two...

Well it's been three days and nothing. It was in a highly visible spot and I saw the shrimp return a couple of times to the area picking at it - it's gone.

I'm on my second try using biological means. First Kleins, currently with peppermint shrimp. Next step will be a filefish if the other two means don't work out. The three pronged approach lol.
