Aquatic Collection had two blue S. gigantea. I know one was sold this weekend, but not sure of the other.

If you are interested specifically in S. gigantea, send me a PM and I can provide you with more information.

Thanks for the info, I will go check it out, never been to Aquatic Collection.
I checked the website, does not show they sell corals :)

anyway, I'll go check, thanks

good luck trying to get a Rhizo. I had a pink one in my tank for about five year. Then my tank crash when I on vacation and the power strip during a storm. No one was home, so there goes everything. Been trying to get one for the past two month with out luck. Will let you know if my Southern Cal source find them. Be sure to pay $$$

If you're on FB look them up. They post updates with photos.

D-Nak: I am not on Facebook (odd maybe?), I'll go visit them just because :)

BasicReef: Thanks for the info, I will find Rhizos, I am not really in any rush. I figure it is the right place to post such request, no luck this time for me , It is not a big deal :)

Thanks All

Rhizos/Dendros illegal to collect and import?

Rhizos/Dendros illegal to collect and import?

Illegal?? Really ? :( :mad2:

So I feel stupid and ignorant but now more informed ....
Originally, I came across Rhizos and loved it so posted the above (as soon as I felt it, no reading)

This week, I started to investigate and DARN!!!!
first, there is this article All Rhizotrochus are illegally collected and imported
then (more in between) Rhyzo Coral - Not Necessarily Illegal.

So I now understand why it is so hard to get Dendro or Rhizo, apparently the "Cladopsammia gracilis" is not banned (?? Caution, just internet reading)

Conclusion:
Rhizos/Dendros are banned to collect and import? the matter of facts, I found out there is quotas and here is the 2015 datasheet.
Export 2015 quotas
- "Dendrophyllia" = 725
Apparently, it gets updated and new corals gets listed on regular basis
The key now is to understand how you would get your hand on Legally imported Rhizos/Dendros based on quotas.

That been said, I love Dendros/Rhizos, they are awesome
not sure if my post is relevant or else, just sharing

Any thoughts?

Dendros and Rhizos I believe are illegal to import and collect but it is my understanding they are legal to sell so long as you can prove the frags came from a colony you possessed before the ban. Now we're talking about the law sooooo be careful.

Also you are missing out big time! if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area and have not been to the following stores:

Aquatic Collection in Hayward
California Reef Co in Fremont
Neptune Aquatics in San Jose
Diablo Corals in Concord

They all have different whole salers so you get different corals/fish. Different tank arrangements. And different deals. Do the gauntlet and visit them all. You wont be sorry.
