LF Small Naso Tang

I see naso tangs for sale all the time at LFS but they are usually rather big. I'm looking for something small because I only have a 180g. I have some algae that I need to get cleaned up so I will probably just have him for a year or two.

Nasos are great at wiping out that brown wafer algae, and nori sheets have no chance in a tank with one, but if you're hoping a Naso will eat more common hair or even bryopsis, I don't think you're likely to be very pleased with the outcome.
A Naso in a 180 isn't a terrible thing, (bigger space is always better) but if you're going to add Tangs until you find the one that eats the algae you've got, you're likely to be overstocked on <s>large poop machines</s> I mean fish that might only help to feed nuisance algae.

I have a naso (Angelina) she will eat everything added in the tank, but I never see her eating nuisance algae. I have 200 gallon as she's doing wonderful. Never add a fish to an tank with plans to remove it later on.

I have grape caulerpa and dictyota taking over. Manual removal over the last few months has done absolutely nothing. Naso tangs devour both. I think long term on any fish purchases and I don't know the growth rate of this fish. I plan to keep it as long as possible and then just donate it to a museum, rainforest cafe, someone with a much bigger tank if it gets too big.

In my experience, you are correct, Naso is very likely to eat Caulerpa. I don't know about Dictoya, that's something I'm relieved to say I've never had to deal with.
I try not to lecture people on stocking levels, it doesn't help, they're going to add what they want. I just try to offer any insight I can and hope people at least consider the needs of their purchases. I wasn't looking to suggest that you didn't research, I don't know you :)

I absolutely hate this algae. It looks cool in a little area and then it just takes over and covers everything. Unlike other algae I've found that it actually likes clean water and thrives when others wouldn't so you can't just starve it out. I've been battling dictyota for a few years. From trolling the boards and searching I have found that nasos love it and a fox face may love it or not touch it. I have a low stock list with everything being like 1" and I have wanted a naso for years but never thought the tank was big enough so now I figured it would be a good time to take care of my problem and get a cool fish.
