im sorry but some of the point on this thread are plain insane. if he was told to suck it to begin with and now he is being told everything is ok we can make it better, someone is covering there butt. someone else comented on the price of a pump and a store has to make a profit, this coming from a guy who owns a pet store. someone else who is friends with the owner of c.c. and is defending him to the end no matter what. its plain bad buss. and lack of RESPECT FOR YOUR CUSTOMER! yes he didnt have to buy the pump but maybe he didnt think he was going to be raped on the price. id still contact the bbb. i would tell him to keep his money tell him to suck it, file a complaint with the bbb, and the chamber,keep up this thread and watch his buss. drop by 20%. ok what if its only 10%. im willing to bet this thread could drop his buss. by at least 10% for the next 30 days. whats that worth.
I am very sympathetic, I would even say that I am somewhat cheap, but if you don't like the price you don't have to purchase. I see everyone's point but running a store's name through the mud that seems to being doing their part in propogating corals and providing local product does not seem the solution. I see Darts on sale here all the time for $150 and this website exists so that you can establish relationships with fellow, local reefers. I am sure those relationships could yield a temporary solution to a pump issue, even on a Sunday. I know I would have turned my skimmer off for a day to let you borrow my pump until you could have found a more cost effective avenue. If we put as much effort into helping out newbies (which we all once were) and answering legitimate (even under-researched) reefing questions as criticizing people, we could all make this a more productive forum. Crap . . . I need to get off my soap-box.

well i don't get on RC and look at all the fun i missed. from my understanding of this situation. CC changed the price on the old pump model to the new model price. knowing not everyone is hip to the prices of pumps. so knowing they could make a real good profit on an old style pump. they took advantage of deaterk's bad situation. and who ever it was at CC played used car salesman and got the deal done and the owner backed his employee's. but didn't know the repucussions of 160.00 profit could turn into a negitive profit in the long run. and now that this thread is started and the thought of loss of future sales and or frequent customer drop.and now he wants to do some damage control. which is not a bad thing but it's sad that it had to come to this to make him re think his bussiness ethics.
i don't want make this lfs vs. lfs but about a year ago some how my 48" nova extreme t5 shorted out and the sockets and one ballest were dead. i went to my lfs that i'm loyal too. and the owner said bring in your fixture and i'll replace it. and this was a year after i purchased the fixture from the lfs. i said if i could buy the parts i could fix it myself. the owner just happen to have a box of nova parts that would work and said "here you go". and refused to let me pay for it. now if he said sorry about your luck but i have a 400.00 light fixture for you. and i need lights so then what would i do then...... it's about taking care of your customers and not screwing them so you keep them as a loyal customer. cause the one big sale is good but frequent little to medium and sometimes med-big sales will keep your bussiness going.

well i had left my explanation of the situation a little broad, trying to give anthony a chance to fill in the gaps with the Whole truth. but as of yet he has not.
as i said before he never called Pierre to tell him he had a problem........................... he did call Pierre but not about a problem just to confirm a price.
What he did was call Pierre after and said basically hey i got this pump and it was 370. is that the right price? So of course Pierre said yeah thats the right price, they had a big price increase. Thinking it was the new style pump. Literally a very short conversation and that was it.
So Anthony up to this point has had the luxury to say well yeah i called him and was told basically yeah thats the price and thats it.
What hes not telling you guys is that he never said to Pierre in that one minute conversation is "hey i have the old pump, not hte new pump, so i think i was overcharged" !
And as far as standing up for Pierre. I wasnt just standing up for Pierre I was trying to help Anthony too. I pmed him to tell him that Pierre didnt know what was going on and it was a mix up and gave him his cell # so that he could call him.
Yet i gave him his cell # and then anthony didnt want to call cause he couldnt stop the thread...........
What does that sound like to you? Like someone knows they may have mislead people and know they shouldnt have posted til they had really talked to Pierre about the problem.

Yes Mark i would be. If i thought someone or a store was being unjustly bashed and knew the store or person it was happening too, and knew the situation, yes i would. Why wouldnt you.
As far as standing up for Pierre, its not different than you standing up for Anthony.
Its easy for people to now bash on me for standing up for Pierre and the situation. But remember its really easy for people to bash on a situation or person when the person cant defend themselves, or tell their side of the story, so of course i am going to do it for him.

Not bashing on you. Anthony tells me 1 thing and Pierre tells you another. As I said, I have known Anthony a long time. I don't think he would lie.
How could there be a mistake on the part of CC when the new price is right on TOP of the old one? They new it was an old pump.
mark--- i guess the jist of it was that when their new shipment of pumps came in they thought it was simply a price increase. not realizing that there was a reason for the increase and the motor was bigger. so yes, it was labeled thinking it was a simple price increase. not trying to rip anyone off.
We have all had issues with pricing with food, gas, clothes, tools etc. Deaterk you should have noticed the double tag. I know if I see a double tag on anything I peel it off and check it out.
I think you would have had a more sympathic ear from the forum if you chose your words more carefully, spelled your posts correctly and used proper verbage.
Your purchase is getting resolved and you should be thankful and end your posts. We will continue to shop where we feel comfortable and should base it on our own individual experiences with each business. Just because someone else had something go bad and you never did is no reason to stop shopping at any place of business.
Your babies are safe and lesson learned.
