LFS that sells RO water

I thought TFP would sell water, but they don't. The only thing they have is 1 gallon of premixed salt water for $13.95. What options do I have to find quality ro water. I only need about 30 gallons to start my nano then it will only be 5 gallon water changes. Would anyone near york be willing to sell me ro water? Thanks.

I used to use purified water from the grocery store, the kind where you fill your own jugs. It was supposed to be RO and run through a sterilizer. I used it for about 2 years before I got my own RO/DI system, worked good for me, but I'm sure not all stores have the same quality.

I found ro at the Weis grocery store at capehorn rd in Red Lion, PA Tests at 3. @ .35 cents a gallon, cheaper than an r/o unit for me. Heavy thought :-)

You should invest in an RO unit. A TDS of 3 will likely cause nuisance algae, nutrient issues (depending on what the 3 is) in your tank. An RO unit may seem expensive, but quality in this hobby is not cheap. Why not provide your livestock with the best environment possible?

The thing is, you never know what that 3 is. It could be chlorine (I doubt it, it usually dissipates within 24 hours), nitrates, copper, etc, etc.

I will sell you RO water, bring your containers. $.50 per gallon You can look at the TDS meter to verify zero. I am in Shermans Dale. PM if interested.

I've also had good experiences with AirWaterIce.com. You can tell by the focus of their site layout over the past few years that reefers are the bread and butter of their clientele, and they'll treat you accordingly. A RO/DI System and Refractometer are by far the best purchases I've made in the hobby.

Even in a nano, trips for 5 gallons of RO water may quickly become a chore. If you go this route, definately stick to fellow hobbiests and stay away from stores, would be my opinion. My concern with store bought water is whether it's despensed at the store or you buy in a jug, it's going to be coming in contact with metal plumbing before it goes in your tank.

Well I started this thread to help out someone since none of her local stores were selling water and she is doing a smaller tank build. She wasn't originally on RC, but anyhow... I was very surprised that fish place doesn't sell ro water. Every store near me sells ro and premixed saltwater.

Anyhow the 3 tds is probably from poor maintenance of their machine. A lot of people I talked to have used store water have had nitrite and phosphates in their water. I would see if they have a phone number on the machine or ask them to change out the filters and flush the membrane. (This still is a better option than distilled water because sometimes the condensing coils are made from copper.)

You would be a lot better buying water from a local reefer than a store if you can. Stephenrsaiz is right that an ro/di unit is ideal. To start out with the Weis water is probably fine for softies and such.

Airwaterice and the filter guys are both a great source for ro/di units. The filter guys also sell Kati Ani units. (which I might be getting to replace the ro unit)

Also I had an idea, you could run your store water through a deionizer to get the tds to zero. Most peoples ro units tds is 2-3 before it goes through the di cartridge.

Guitar, beyond the fact that we have no website, none of us hang out on nanoreef, and we don't care about MASNA, didn't you see recent threads in the forum and think to yourself maybe they're still active?

Especially after I replied to an email...

Oops, wrong thread. :lolspin::lolspin:

I forgot to add that, that is what I did when I used the store bought water, just to make sure the stuff was pure. Good luck
