Buyers beware of Pet Mart, I also have also had some shady dealings at used car lot they call Pet Mart. Go to Coral Reef, Finz of Tampa, or even Marine Warehouse. All of these are professionally run businesses that are a little pricier, but fair. Coral Reef is only about 10-15 minutes away from Busch Gardens. I use Marine Warehouse for equipment, Coral Reef and Finz of Tampa for livestock. This is only my opinion, I hope I didn't offend anyone, but Pet Mart gladly took thousands of my hard earned dollars, and treated me with little respect as a customer. I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot by any means, but when you ask even the owner a question, you should not be made to feel unimportant. The best thing about being a buyer is choice, and I chose to not spend another penny in that store, regardless of the 40-50% off deals.
Your post make little since. If they did not treat you with respect why would you spend thousands of dollars in the store? How can you compare them to a used car lot? Do you have something specific to say because these are very vague slander type of statements. You mention you had shady dealing as well, why were you apart of shady dealing, it take two to make a deal doesn’t it? What does this mean? If you’re going to attack the store then stand up and say what you mean, don’t beat around the bush. I am getting tired if this pet mart bashing. I speak from first hand knowledge as a customer for around 6 years now. I just don't get what the deal is. I have spent thousands of dollars to, that’s not hard to do in this hobby.

Mind sharing with us? And if this is true.. time to come out of the closet and let everyone know your interests in defending this store.
Being an employee, in ANY capacity, makes you a representative of the store and means you have to abide by the rules of the <a href=http://reefcentral.com/agreement.php target=_blank>User Agreement</a> concering commercial posts. Especially when defending the store from someone who has an opinion that differs from yours.

I am continually amazed that PetMart on Busch stays in business. I have to assume that they make their money on supplies and non-saltwater livestock because their saltwater selection and staff suck. The place is always a mess and the last 2 times we've been there (in the last month) there has been some kind of construction going on with extremely wet floors and cords and pipes all over the place. Not real safe I think.
You want a specific example fish4red - here ya go. I was in there last Saturday night in search of a female spotted mandarin. They didn't have any spotted mandarins, but they did have some greens. As we were looking at them, we noticed they had put 2 into one very small tank together. Since at least 90% of the mandarins that come into the trade are males - and males fight - this was a concern. I spent a few minutes watching them and saw that they were definitely both male (mandarins are dimorphic). The smaller of the males was being harrassed horribly. We approached the staff and let them know about it and they seemed .... nonplussed ... to say the least.
Let's be clear - I didn't expect the store to know how to sex a mandarin, though it is pretty easy. I DID expect the store to be smart enough not to put 2 to a tank when they are known to be aggressive towards others of their kind AND I expected them to show some concern for the livestock in their store. But this is par for the course with that awful, awful store. We honestly hate going in there and hadn't been in over a year before we went back on our quest for the female mandarin.
I hear the one in St. Pete is better but I have no personal experience there.
PS. Frogger rules but I still love my Donkey Kong

I have been to both stores and only go there to show people how bad it is and to get a good laugh. let me be the next to bash them. st.pete did have john who i think needs to work somewhere else because he is better than that place. one other guy that might have some knowledge but he thinks an army green ricordea is cheap at $19.99 per ricordea. so there you have something slightly bash worthy.

Here we go again with this fish4red person, I thinking the same thing about him working for them or some how being affilated in some way. the ONLY posts he makes is sticking up for PetMart. Everyone has opinions and theres TONS of them on RC and the only one he sticks up for is PetMart, I have to agree with everyone also PetMart has its PROBLEMS. We all know that and theres no hiding it. If you want someone to think differently about them than they better start cleaning thier act up and do alittle better to gain the confidence back to shoppers.

Not sure how come its ok for all you folks to stand up for the stores you go to and some how when I do it its because I work for them.. Makes no since. No I don't work for Pet Mart and never Have. If you think different then say why and who told you so. Other wise get use to me because its not right to make comments Like pyle did just generally saying they are "like a used car lot" they have "shady dealings" If you want to be specific like angelsil was then I think that’s fine.
