life after ich

Loup obviously is not aware that ozone started in public aquariums and made its way to general consumers. Everything was commercial grade back in the past and none will fit in a sump. People had to DIY ozone reactors before it ever caught on. There were no available reactors when I started. It is not new technology. It is just not acceptable for some despite the results it produce. I never even said it is the cure all. It is just one part of the overall system helping with my tank husbandry. Why is it so hard to accept that I don't quarantine fish yet I am able to keep fish I acquire from the Lfs? I can't be that lucky to get non-sick fish. We all get it from the same source. I know it is standard practice to quarantine. I am all for it but to put medicine just in case as a precautionary measure when the fish has no sign of disease is harsh. If a public aquarium with experienced staff can make a mistake with drugs, the general public or any inexperienced reefer most likely will make the mistake too. I am just showing another alternative that works IMO. I provided the link to show most recent boo boo relating to improve use of medicine.

I had never owned or use a phosphate or nitrate test kit too. The only necessary kit I use is Elos for kh and Red Sea for mg. Yet, I can grow colonies of sps as shown in the pictures I provided. I have a way of doing things that may be unpopular for some but my results speak for itself.

I guess you don't vaccinate your kids from measles etc..... Because thats giving then medication even though they don't show signs of disease. If you do then by your logic it is harsh.

I am in no way attacking Glenn, just the advice that was given to use ozone in lieu of qt/meds.

I said I put sick fish in MY tank, not anybody else's tank and they do fine because of my equipment and the nutrition that I provide that allow the fish to recover. I have posted pictures of my tank. I showed my results based on what I do. I am providing another option to those that would rather not use medications. If you don't like it, don't do it. Am I giving a wrong advise based on my results? I sure hope not.

Btw, vaccines are made of inoculated dead viruses which has certain markers that allow our body to identify it and build up natural antibodies against it. So if we ever get in contact with the live disease, the body has already developed antibodies to both identify and counter it. That is how you build immunity. Medicines are mostly chemical based compounds that can do good in certain quantities but can be overdosed and kill you. Building up antibodies is natural, the same concept that if you have a way to remove the pathogen, e.g. disrupt the larval stage of a parasite, then you can allow the fish to fight it off on its own without using medication. If it eats it has hope. Ozone will provide the environment to let it recover. Copper on the other hand is anti bacterial chemical and will damage or kill the fish in excess quantities. You can't use it in a reef tank. If you have a 300 gallon display, are you going to tear down your rock work just to catch the fish? What will you do if you have it on your display? Catch the fish and stress it even more?

I have a bachelors of science in Genetics/Microbiology from UC Davis. My wife is a registered nurse at Kaiser. We do know a little about vaccinations, etc but I do get the point of using Meds as a preventative measure. I support the proper use of it. I am only arguing the point that there are other alternatives. Mine is one of them. Josh talked about the tank transfer method. More than one way to skin a cat. How about hypo salinity? That is another option for certain fish.

Thats awesome Glenn that you and your wife have education behind you so this should be fairly easy to understand. So ask your wife if a person comes in with an infection does the medical team give the patient a a series of prophylatic chemicals ie: broad spectrum antibiotics? they do this till they find the correct bug to treat with the correct chemical. Any good medical provider knows this is the correct protocal.

I gave the immunizations example merely to reach a broader audience to understand my reasoning.

As I stated from the beginning that there is more than 1 way to skin a cat, but to tell someone to get ozone and perpetuate the idea to buy fish straight from lfs and dump into tank is no way to pass this information along.

You state you support the use of it but use an example of a public aquaria's misuse as an example to stat away from meds. Yet you still bash the idea of meds in previous posts.

You are giving the advice that you want to give which is fine, I merely am in support of a QT/meds route. As this public forum needs to know that this your method is not a traditionally recommended method.

I treat with Prazi-pro on day 1 and once that is over I treat with KanaPlex or sometimes Furan-2. In just two weeks I can cure the fish of ich, any worms flukes etc and then also treat bacterial issues such as popeye, fin/tail rot, septicemic etc.

Once that is done it's just a visual inspection and making sure the fish is eating and healthy and into the display after that.

I've done this on close to 100 fish in the past year, it's a pretty fool proof way to give you the best odds at healthy fish.
So would you recommend using the prazipro while doing the tank transfer? While running kanaplex, or wait til after? I'm day one into it and he looks much better, he definitely had a slime coating come off his entire body. I thought for sure he would be a goner this morning considering the stress he endured while catching him. I just fed him selcon soaked spirilina flakes and cubes. I'm optimistic but I know how it goes. Thanks again

I would do prazi after 1st and 2nd transfer. And kanaplex on 3rd if you want. Just dont mix medication.

I use prazi from day 1-6, redosing at day 3 when you do the first transfer. Then they go right into kana/furan from there.

Brian is the man. Can't wait to see his tank in the other thread.

Unfortunately there isn't much to show or see in there :) all fish are still in QT.
it prob won't be till monday (kid's b-day weekend).

We have so many nice tanks in our area, but people are quite shy :)
In the mean time, I will tag JoshG and his massive fish collection.

One more question.... if I'm leaving my tank fallow for 3 months can I leave 3 skunk cleaners in the tank? I know they remove ich from the fish but are they hosts also?
