here's a list of my captive tangs so far & still going strong, hippo for 6 years, purple & Naso for for 7 years, powder blue for 6 years, also have a female Perc for 13 years still spawning monthly
I would say it should be around 20-25 as well. Marine fish live can live a very long time with the exception of some fish like neon gobies. I don't think neon gobies live more than 2 years, average is about 1 on them.
It would appear based on the graphs on page 21 (page 7 of the PDF) of this study (http://www.int-res.com/articles/meps/134/m134p015.pdf) that 30 years in the wild is an approximate lifespan of several species of tangs. There are even a couple of data points on there that are closer to 50!
