Lifereef or CPR overflow?

Right now there is a mag 24 that is doing the return, but that is to a 90gal... and there is a ball valve at the outlet flow of the water pump to control flow rate. Could I just keep that basic setup instead of changing to a mag 7 for a 55gal?

I wouldn't. That Mag24 is a huge power hog and will really heat up the tank. You would be putting a severe flow restriction on it. Sell it and get the right size pump.

go with the lifreef, but that sound like a lot of flow for a 55. unless your are going to have mutiple inlets in to the tank
