Lighting for 24" deep reef tank

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forums but I've been lurking for almost a year now. I know a lot this stuff has been discussed multiple times but there's a lot of conflicting ideas/thoughts out there and I want some answers and/or ideas regarding my specific tank.

I have a 36" long x 24" deep 65 gallon tank with only soft coral and a few LPS frags. The tank is only about 6 months old. I currently have only a Aquatic Life Edge Reef Edition on my tank. It works but I want something that can penetrate deeper (read that this light isn't really meant for deeper than 18") and can (eventually) grow SPS, which I don't think my current light can. My question is, since the tank is so deep, would 2 Kessil A160s be enough for my tank? Or does anyone have other suggestions? My budget is only about $400-$450 unfortunately. Thanks in advance.

I'd say with only softies and LPS (up higher), you can get away with two Kessil 160's. If anything, look at trying a Reefbreeder Photon 24 or 32".

I agree with Hentz.

If you are considering sps or clams, look at the Reef Breeders Photon V2 (24" or 32" will work). They also have a Aquasanrise Plus R60 which I think may even be better than the Photon V2. Darn good fixtures for the price. Tought to beat without spending 25% to 50% more money... and the light isn't any better.

I have the same tank. Two weeks ago I got radion xr30 pro. Mine are 10" above water line. Perfect spread and can grow anything no problem

I'm running a pair of 160s over a 26" tall 120. Grows softies and gorgonians just fine; I even have some SPS around mid depth that are doing fine as well. I run the lights up to 80%.
