Lighting for frogspawn or Hammer. Is it enough?

Haha, spent all that time typing the last post and forgot to add, I think your tank is looking good! Looks like your frogspawn and torch are settling in nicely as well.

My trumpets doing good. I have noticed they like to be near the bottom and not close to my lights ( i only have CP lights thou). took a while to get the right spot for them. When i put them up higher in the tank, they don't open as much. Since i got them in that spot they doing good. I spot feed them about 2-3 a week.

My torch is one of my favorite because i bought it damaged and the LFS gave me a price i couldn't pass up. Since i got it. its has really grown out and already have 2 new heads.

I have two places i go I will PM you the names. If you are in Baltimore I know a few up there and then lower parts there are a few.

Thinking on my next coral I believe it is going to be some trumpets............I understand they like the light but I was curious on the flow all my others are in the low to moderate range are they the same? any incite would be helpful.

My trumpets like being low with moderate flow. When i put them up higher in the tank they didn't open up as much and looked like they lost some color. I'm only running CP lights.

That is what i run in mine but I have 4 96 watt PC with led lights.......... So they prefer to be lower I will remember that and I will have to think of a good spot for it. Most of my frogspawns and torch adn hammer sre to the one side and looking for something that will take some movement better.

i have had this branching hammer for several months from a frag and it has never colored up. open for suggustions. water quality is good and nothings changed. i dont target feed but it gets food just like the rest of the corals. assuming this is a lighting issue or perhaps something else. i have a 4 bulb t5ho ati fixture (ati bulbs blue+,special, purple). any help would be awesome.

How many watts is it? I had a similar problem and when I got it from the LFS it had a white head on my branching frogspawn. But after a few months it has started to darken up like the rest. I would say maybe change your lights. How old are they? Also might want to get a day bulb I run PC 2 12K and 2 super blue.

That hammer looks awesome. I will say though that it could be bleached. According to some feedback I just got about a recent frogspawn frag I bought (Also predominantly white) white corals are usually bleached. Target feedings will help them recover as well as proper lighting and Mg levels. Everything is looking great otherwise bro, keep it up!

Yeah I am thinking the same been taking it slow and might have to drop it lower in my tank to help with the lighting. I am happy so far with everything and the first frogspawn is growing great looks like it is going to have six new heads coming in I will try and get pics and post. I have started to target feed all my corals atleast try to once a week. The hammer I had got from a lfs and he normally has good stuff but not sure on this one it seems to be doing ok but like you said I think it is bleached as well what si the best thing to do for bleached coral besides the target feeding?

Nice thread-- thanks for letting us follow along. Does frogspawn sting others of similar kind like hammers???

Yeah, from what I've been told anyway, the target feeding will help it recover a bit quicker. I'd just keep doing what you are doing. Seems everything is doing very well and I'm sure the hammer will come around soon enough. The interesting part is finding out what color it will acquire...

Yeah I cant wait and see. I lowered it in the tank and did some rearranging playing with flow and stuff to see what happens. As for stinging others of it kind from what I know it can happen but if they grow in to each other slowly it is less likely but they are all from the same family so I dont think they do. If I am wrong someone please advise with right info since I am and still consider myself a noobie on this.

so I did some more rearranging messed with flow and pretty much rearranged all my corals to place the hammer where it can get some color back since it possibly could have been bleached. It is starting to darken up a bit so hopefully with some time and tlc it will get its wonderful color back I will post some pictures later computer was down for a bit so couldnt post. All other corals are doing great torch is growing slowly frogspawns are becoming huge with new heads on the bigger one possibly six new ones once al is said and done.
