Lighting for low light corals

Sorry i forgot to mention that these are the current lights that i have on my fowlr...... if i cant use these for any sort of coral or anenome then ill keep it a fowlr.... along with my saltwater i have 5 other tanks ranging from freshwater stingrays, discus, piranhas, payara, african tigerfish and others so money for this hobby is pretty spread out.... cant/ dont want to invest in expensive lights

Thanks guys

You can get these 165w full spectrum and dimable LED's for $83 shipped to your house (free shipping), there are many of us here using them and they work very well. I'm only using one over my 40b which is 36x18x17. Yes I have some shading on the sides of about 6" but I like having that for corals that like lower light and I've got as strong as I want in the middle for SPS. This one I posted the link to covers a 24"x24" area so if you wanted full coverage you would need two. Or they do make a 36" 300w full spectrum and dimable for about double the cost of one of the smaller ones also with free shipping. You can find it on the link further down the page.

Yes then can handle 24" depth easily. No the lights you have aren't strong enough for corals and anemones.

You can do a search here for Mars Aqua LED and find a bunch of positive posts on these. I hate giving my money to China but it's so very hard to pass these up.

I also bought some SunSun powerheads and did a thread on them. 800 gph with suction cups for $7.88 each with free shipping. They have sizes up to 3200 gph. I had a Hydor Korilla 750 and these are way more powerful. So they will help you save money to invest in fish and corals and anemones then can upgrade to the better products later if you wish. Do a search for SunSun and you'll find the thread.

Sandnukka15, Current does have very inexpensive leds for reefs. But if the tank is more than 12" deep, I wouldn't suggest them. Yours might work over a 12" shallow frag tank, but most people want more than enough light, not "just barely enough" light.

I've got a similar lights to the Mars Aqua. I only run them at 25/40% (blues/whites on separate dimmers). I have 2 165 boxes on my 100g tank (5') and have to put low light corals in the shade or sides.

Thanks guys..... I feel like there will most likely be an upgrade in tank size for me in the near future so I might just wait it out......maybe a 4x2x1 or 4x2x16

I've got a pair of the marsaquas on a 2' deep tank and it's fine. I'm upgrading to a 120 but I'm gonna keep them for that too b/c it's the same length and height 4'x2' just a deeper footprint than my skinny 55. I'm pretty psyched about that.

The marsaquas basically each light a 2' cube of water. So your good up 4x2x2 with a pair of them (that's a standard 120). It can get a little tricky for other sizes, like a 40b is 36" long so some people put lower light coral at the dim edges, and people who want all sps use 2 lights.
