Lighting requirements for clams - please read

great info...sticky please:)

you guys dont need to get technical on those specs are perfect for anyone wanting to keep a clam succesfully.

On the new version can you maybe post the adult size of the clams as well? This will help when deciding the minimum tank size. Thanks great info.

There also is another over looked wrinkle in the clam lighting guide.
What happens in the wild does not happen in the clam farms.
Clams grown in raceways never experience what their parents did out on the reef.
Most farmed clams are grown under the same light exposures and water conditions regardless of species.
At the clam farm, does a Derasa clam growing next to a Maxima clam under identical conditions for over a year...some how require in once its shipped and placed into an aquarium, a different (in tank) conditions simply because its a different species?
Considering that all Derasas are farm raised , do we really even need to consider what conditions wild Derasas like ?
These farm raised clams seem to domesticate all the species into one set of growing standards.
Perhaps we need to list growing conditions for this new hobby species: "Tridacna Domesticus Racewayicus"

They are all grown under very shallow raceways under the blazing sun right. The fact still remains that Deresas can and will survive under much less lighting than Croceas. In the new lighting guide I have mentioned that there is no maximum light that exists in our hobby. What I have tried to stress was the minimum.

The thread originator put a lot of thought and effort into this post in an attempt to help other hobbyists. This comment is not constructive. Please keep any future posts on this thread on track and helpful. Of course reasonably stated questions would also be welcome.

Thanks,
