I am in the process of setting up a 12 gallon nano and I am unsure as to which specific type of lights to get. I really like the shimmer effect that comes with metal halides so I am leaning towards them but nothing is certain. I do not want to have any limitations in regards to corals, clams, ect. caused by the lighting so im turning to you guys to give me your suggestions on watts and fixture. Give me your opinions!!!! ... Please :)

Have you thought about LED lighting. They give the shimmer of a metal halide, but they dont have the heat. This is especially important in a nano tank.

I have a 24 nano and run a 150 watt phoenix 14k halide with 2- 14 watt t5 actinics. Works great for color and growth but does run a little warm. Water temp is 80-82. I want to switch to led, but so expensive right now. Also, how many watts of led lights are required to grow sps?

Look into par38 bulbs. They screw into a normal medium base socket. Try coral compulsion theirs rock. I'm not associated with them just a happy customer.

I have seen these 150 watt led pendents at the fish store and they look great. And they come in a selection of colors.

If i was setting up a nano again, I would go with these. That should work fine for the sps. I have 3 watt led fixtures in my 210 aquarium, and i am growing sps. That being said my sps are at the top of my tank, and my lps are in the middle, mushroom and zoos on the bottom.

I am using a chinese made led fixtures made called epistar. They were only $160 brand new and they work great and have great color. I have had t5 and metal halides in the past, but after using LED's i would not go back.

Hope this helps
