Sanjay (or anyone else)

Know or heard anything about an Oceanbulb 12,000K that Custom Aquatics is showing on their web page? Is this a new bulb from Aqua Medic?

NO, I have not tested the blueline 175W 10K. I may have tested it several years ago, and the data would probably be in

Joshi, S. 2002, "Spectral Analysis of Recent Metal Halide Lamps: Part IV- 10000K and 12000K lamps," 2002 Annual Marine Fish and Reef USA , Fancy Publications.

Unfortunately, I do not have a electronic version of this one anymore. The excel files with the data and the doc files became a victim to a virus attack several years ago.

I dont know, but Aqua Medic also has a 16,000K that they just dont sell in the states.

They are all playing the numbers game now. Lets take the numbers that are not taken :D

I think we as hobbyist should put the ownus on the manufacturer and sellers to provide data that validates thier marketing claims.

Thanks Sanjay,on your website you do list the info for the Blueline 10K+ ( not the super white) in 250W and its PPFD is down in the dumps at 33. Should I assume the 175 W version ov this lamp is even worse . I do realy like the coloration of this lamp very blue on my Mag 57 Venture ballast
Should I be concerned with such low PPFD keeping soft corals ?
If so could you or someone suggest a new lamp with good PPFD but still have a nice blue look
Thanks ~

I wouldn't be worried about lower par halides if you have a softie tank. If you like the look and things are doing fine, keep it.

Maybe I'm a little slow but, I just noticed that JBJ is making halide bulbs (JBJ K-1). When did this start? I haven't heard anything about their performance.

Sanjay, you do not have them on your site yet. Have you tried or heard anything about them yet?

Thanks

I think the Iwasaki might not be as blue as I like -
I am looking for the blueist lamp with good bar (not GREAT par)
I keep soft corals so I am not sure if I really need the best par possible .The 250W lamp (blueline10K+) only comes in at 33 ppfd so I assume the 175W is even less. I realy love the look of this lamp but want a better lamp for the corals health.

According to cnidarianreef his test of the XM & CV 20K lamps (in 250W) hade better par on a m57 than the Aquaconect 14K
I would assume this would be true for 175W also

Look through the spectral plots of the 20KK lamps .. and find the ones that have the highest output in the 400-500 range and lower output elsewhere. That should net you the bluest lamp.

I am working on some enhancements to the site that would allow you to view the color coodinates of the lamp on a CIE color chart. This would possibly help in determining "how blue" the lamp could appear. It still work in progress.

Sanjay,

Do you have any 70 watt bulb readings that will one day show up on the website or do you just not bother with that low of wattage?

I also wanted to ask if you (or anyone else) could tell me the difference between these ballasts
http://www.1000bulbs.com/products.php?cat=70-Watt-Metal-Halide-Ballast
Specifically what's different about F-CAN vs. Multitap ballasts? Or if they would either accomplish starting and burning an HQI bulb like this, http://www.hellolights.com/70w10hqiu.html , "70W 10,000K HQI Double Ended -Ushio".

I'm considering adding a small metal halide and a heat pump chller to my 5g nano in the next few months.

Thanks,
Will
