How do you know that? Mendel's peas say otherwise :)

based on the fact that their faces are already showing the clear pattern...

though the general quality of the fishes are poor, also defects came from not ideal rearing....still at least he managed to utilize the fish in the end...now breeders have a solid genetic pool to work with..

It's too bad the body shape on these clowns is all screwed up. Granted their price is ultimately decided by the highest bidder but for that kind of money, I would expect the fish to be in pristine body form with clear lightning markings. I think they look like ugly maroon snowflakes. Now the original wild female lightning maroon clown, that's a beautiful fish. Not the deformed offspring.

i think it is the breeders who are going for the price...i don't think hobbyist in the USA will pay so much for a clown...unless guys from Japan are shadow bidding by the help of their US counterparts...

i won't be surprised if people from ORA,SA etc. are behind this bidding....also same person bought both lightning..no casual breeder will pay $16,000 for two fish...

And 16K for two??? What is wrong with people? I hope that clownfish is laying hundred dollar bills, because if not i can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would spend so much money for the most basic of saltwaterfish. Obviously they are color variants but you get the idea

I just heard that the two lightnings that were purchased for the thousands spent are to be a center piece in their reef tank, not for breeding... I could understand the investment if it were a breeder, but a reef tank for show? They are crazy.
