Lightsluvr's 340G Upgrade

I am in the market for a new skimmer (sort of, after X Mas) so I have been online looking at differant models. I found one that I liked, a good brand, and the one that I liked, the manufacturer recommened that you pay X amount of $$$ more for the up grade to make it work better, now this upgrade comes as a kit and I have to put it together when I get the skimmer at the house. Maybe its just me, I don't want to spend those amount of $$$$ and then have to put the upgrade together myself. My point is, I agree with IBASSFSH, if it makes that big off a differance do the upgrade at the factory.

What brand is that? Sounds like one of those I mentioned in the previous post?

I think manufacturers (and after market suppliers) study the market and know how aquarists think (cheap)...they figure if a customer will pay $700 for the Malibu, they'll come back for a $400 Super Sport upgrade a few months later. This same customer might never look at a $1,000 skimmer when making their original purchase.

Just an observation. Pot calling kettle black, doncha know... :worried:

Reactor woes...

Reactor woes...

DKH has been hovering between 10.6 and 11.0. CA is okay at 400-420. I increased the flow of effluent through the reactor to achieve the current level.

My effluent pH is ranging between 7.20 and 7.30. Any lower pH causes higher alkalinity. I have been trying to dial down the dkH closer to 9, but I wonder if my CA is going to fall as well.

I have re-read Randy Holmes-Farley's articles on setting up CA reactors and hopefully I have it right.

Any hints?

In the beginning...

In the beginning...

I got a PM from a new RC member asking how to access the beginning of the build thread. Apparently the link to Page 1, Part 1 wasn't working for them. (It's OK to post questions or problems directly on the thread)

So anyway, here is a link to the first post of Part 1, where I was still giddy from closing a deal to purchase the AGE tank, stand and many plumbing parts.

Thanks for the interest and come back often.

As a matter of fact, that is on my list of things to do this weekend. I will video the tank, including the fish at feeding time. I also want to do a video of the water change process...

At the movies...

Here's a video I took just after lights on this morning...

The toadstool hadn't opened up fully, and you can see the crop of bryopsis I am battling - of course the only algae that the tangs won't touch... :worried: Other than that, everything looks healthy...

Here's another view of the reef in the morning. The solids in water are from the closed loop kicking in after a two hour early morning hiatus...

Good passing view of the cleaner wrasse doing its thing on the Vlamingi Tang.

Feeding frenzy...

Feeding frenzy...

Morning buffet at the Sea of Taurus. Two cubes Emerald entree, 1 Tbsp Nutramar Ova, a Tbsp size chunk of Mike&Jeri's special mix, 1 sheet nori and three cubes PE Mysis shrimp.

I like to watch them in the full screen mode... even saw the cleaner shrimp come out to play...
