May 31, the color blue

May 31, the color blue

According to the Color Wheel Pro, the color blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Blue is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness. Today, I have color blue from head to foot, but I digress... :rolleye1:

AGE tanks...

AGE tanks...

A RC member sent me a PM with a very good question. They wanted to know what an AGE tank was. They had seen a lot of reference to AGE tanks, but didn't know what it meant.

Here is the AGE website:

Check out the gallery.

...and that's why I'm excited to have one of these babies coming to our home...

Great progress!

I'm looking around the room for electrical outlets.....
I hope you have PLENTY!

We are using 2 DC4's just for the lights and 2 DC8's for most of the equipment and that is still not enough!
We also had the electrician run 2 separate lines in the room.

BTW............
Ed said he will help you with the water tank set-up :)

This room already had 5 outlets in there, but they were all on the same breaker. Our son is an electrician, and he moved one outlet that was on the living room wall to the fish room. That makes two breakers. Then he ran two other outlets that we previously installed for our 180G / 120G tanks. These are GFCI circuits exclusively for the fish tanks. When we shut down the other tanks, these circuits will be activated in the fish room. That makes a total of (4) 20A circuits, one of which is shared with other rooms.

I'm not really concerned with number of outlets; just adequate amperage capacity. We will be using a controller that will provide the outlets for most of the equipment.

I am pleased that Ed can help with the water tank system design. I have a nearly new Quiet One Model 6000 pump (1200 gph) that can serve as the heart of the system. It has 1" feed and outputs.

Thanks Sandy!

Movin-On-Up George!

Looks like a killer project. I may be able to assist with the fun - and - games day, but not sure yet.

Please keep the pics coming on the home remodeling end of this project.

WOW! You guys are moving right along with this build. We'll be there to lend a hand. It's looking great!! So much prep goes into getting a fishroom ready, I remember all the prep we had to put in ours.

Great job so far. All the advice i could have given you was to use Sean Whitltey with the Adoorabable door company for the construction. He is with out a doubt the best there is. Not the cheapest but the best. Known him for over 30 years, and would recommend him to anyone for any job. 405-202-1474. Never cuts corners and is without a doubt the best in the bussinaess. Tell him Doug Cannon told ya to call and he wii hook you up. Best caftsman in the U.S. He built all of the House of Blues clubs nation wide, and is a world class craftsman. I commend you on not cutting any corners and doing the job right. Can't wait to see this finished. If i wasn't currently spending all my money at the tattoo and bike shop i ihave a 15' by 10' room that is just dieng to become a huge aquarium. Maybe when my back piece is done and my custom airbrush job is finished i can get to it. It will be over 1000g though, so it's on the back burner for now. I just spent over $4000 on the back piece and the paint job though, so the tank is on hold for now. When i do get to it though look out for the TOTY lol.

Did you put any lights in the ceiling over the tank so when you move the MH out of the way, you can still see? Did you add a vent to the room yet?

We took the advice of several folks and placed (2) 1.0 sone 100CFM vent fans above the tank. They will run 24/7 after the tank is filled to control humidity. They exhaust to a wind turbine that our roofer will install later this week.

Now that the painting is done, I'll get my son over on his day off (Friday I hope) to install the 4-tube waterproof flourescent over the tank, the (2) vent motors, and the ceiling flourescent for the room. He can also wire the remaining wall receptacles.

I will be installing vinyl cove molding later today. Decided to go with the vinyl, in case of any spills or flooding. I will also be running the feed line for the RO/DI system which will be in the room.

We used the vinyl molding also! worth the money! we didn't paint the walls, we used FRP boards.

We found 20' rolls of self-stick 4" vinyl cove molding at the Depot... about $19 per roll. Cheaper and quicker than the wood type that we use throughout the rest of the house...

I just left a note over on your thread.

Getting cranked up now...

Another suggestion i would have for you at the point you are at now, is to install Solatubes for lighting and suppliment with T-5 actinics. That will save a ton on electricity, and heat, and give you a natural light and moon cycle. They are reall not very expensive to install, and the light they produce is about the same as MH without the heat.

A little late...as the construction is completed and the room is painted. I read a thread on RC about solatube lighting - it was very interesting, but I'm just not that cutting edge yet.
I did make the switch for this tank from MH to t5s. With the venting that I have in place, plus the 15,000 BTU air conditioning PTAC unit in the room, I think I'm good to go on the heat and humidity issue.

You would be suprised at how easily they can be installed and how cheap they are to install. They would pay for themselves in under a year, and it's really never too late. An amature could install them in a few hours, and the natural light cycle would greatlt bennefit the tank IMO. I'm not sure if Sean would install them or not, but it would be worth a call. I have also researched them, and the light they put off is stunning.
