Hi , I`ve been wanting to try breeding clowns for many years now and want to start soon . I only seem to get bits of info once and a while and would appreciate any help . Also like to find a breeder in IL to buy a pair from .

Joyce Wilkersons book is a great place to start. What kind are you interested in breeding? Oh and your not too far from me. I'm not a breeder, but depending on what your interested in, may be able to help you out.

Oh ya , about 20 minutes away . I have Joyce Wilkersons Clownfish book . Right now I have a pair of True percs that are supposed to be mating soon[according to my LFS] . I also have 2 Ocellaris that seem to have paired together and want to tryand breed them or buy a maited pair from someone and go that way . As for which species , doesn`t matter as I love clownfish .

Which LFS are you going to? Have you been to Rods Reef?

I haven`t been to Rod`s as I just found out about him yesterday . The LFS I bought the Percs from is Eddies Pet shop in Lasalle . I usually go there and a place in Montgomery . Sometimes I go to Franks in Ottawa also .

Definately visit Rods, Rod has raised a bunch of Onyx clowns. Rod only sells babies, not breeding pairs.

I have not know Eddies or Franks to be knowledgeable in clownfish breeding.

You may want to post in the Chicago forum too. I will let you know if I hear of a pair available.

Rods are the best you have to check him out he is a very good breeder and a really nice guy

also if you are in chicago area Matt pederson breeds clownfish as well i have his email if you want it

best thing is to talk to a couple breeders and find out what it takes, see thier setups and get an idea what you want

They don`t breed fish . Eddie is very knowledgeable . The Percs I bought from Eddies are definetly paired together , just don`t know how old they are and what age they will start .

percs are very easy to pair just having a pair doesnt make them close to being a breeding pair
i will PM you matts email

When I purchased these percs there were 6 in the tank and the two I picked seemed to be buddies following each other everywhere . They have grown a lot since I got them and the female is about 2 1/4 inches long and the male is about 2 . I know buying two doesn`t just make them a mating pair .

no buying two is the only way to get a mated pair a single clownfish can not breed with itself. :)

it takes lots of time is the thing could be two years could be 6 months there are a variety of factors that go into this
did you get my PM?
