Lineatus Fairy Wrasse Owners - Questions

That's a bummer if you bought it as a full grown male. Was that what they advertised it as?

Just said Large Male.

They had Terminal and X-Large males as well.

Looked at him a second ago when I feed the tank. Def. has a red hue to his tail.

Would that be considered male or sub-male?

After doing a lot of reading, I'm thinking he's a sub-male.
Correct; it's an adult male, but not a terminal male. The terminal males develop the red tails.

If you're worried, get another type of fairy wrasse, not necessary to have a F Lineatus ... (It will also turn male)
That would be my suggestion as well.

Female lineatus are typically pretty nasty in temperament; yet another reason to skip one.

If there will be other wrasses in the tank, a terminal male will keep its color just fine.

Awesome guys, had me second guessing the gender.

I was really happy with my order as well lol

The terminal was A LOT more as well... naturally...

I guess a large Lineatus and 5 Anthias to help sway some tang on tang aggression...

Just want a lot of movement in the tank to distract the tangs... they've chilled out a ton, but did lose a Purple and Tomini to aggression. Have a Black, Yellow, YB Blue and Chevron now.

Which wrasses would you suggest?

I never knew about them until I saw your posting. $170 or something like that for a large male seems very reasonable.

I just did tank transfer with a sub male lineatus. He was (still is) timid and hid most of the time in QT. He is doing fine in the display, but definitely still a bit timid. He did make my exquisite flash a lot more after going to the DT.

I worry about Ammmonia in tank transfer so I have started keeping a brute trash can of display tank water (from waterchanges) lowered to TTM salinity with a powerhead & heater in it. I syphon the TTM tank daily & do a 50-75% water change daily, seems to keep the fish healthier and I can feed like crazy this way.

After seeing how active my Lineatus is now and also the anthias, think I'll just stick with a permanent QT.

Started treating with Prazi yesterday. Will do three treatments, wait a few days and start with a 1/2 to 2/3's dose of Cupramine with levels brought up over a week.

Well the Lineatus is doing amazing now.

Totally not shy anymore... did a water change after the Prazi had been in the tank for 72 hours.

The Lineatus was all over the place, inspecting the tube in the tank, etc...

Even now comes to the upper corner of the tank where I put food in every time I go to look at the tank.

Spy on them every now and then on the camera. Everything time I pull it up, he's swimming around.

Great signs!

Definitely the opposite of shy now :)

Nice thread. I picked up a super male a few weeks ago. he is definitely timid. Started out only coming out at feedings but now stays hidden all the time. Has a hole in the front that I can see him in but doesn't come out. Hoping this is just transitional since he is a large male and they can take time. Fingers crossed. No one picks on him at all as I have watched to make sure.

Looks good. Mine is the boss wrasse of the tank. That one may be too.

I hope so :)

I want to really add a lot more Fairy Wrasses now!

Stupid quarantine waiting period...

Do you think a flame Wrasse pair will do well in QT with a small Crosshatch Trigger pair? 40 gallon breeder.

If one were to get another wrasse instead of a female lineatus with the intention of keeping the male lineatus colors vivid, would that wrasse have to be a female or can one purchase a male to do this?

IME, any fairy wrasse should be fine, and should soon turn male also.
