Lionfish X Three

the radiata went and bolted to the opposite end of the tank and looked VERY pale in coloration.

What you observed was the "stress coloration" of the radiata, which was brought on by the fish being spooked by its tankmates.

P. radiata is a good solid eater once conditioned and weaned, but they aren't super aggressive feeders, esp in the presence of a "mob" (they will usually just back away and let the others take all of the food). This is why it's best to get them conditioned and weaned before placing them in the DT.

Your best bet will be target feeding the fish if it will accept food from a stick.

I was about to say what was up with that color. Did his light just come on or did he just "wake up". Does it brighten after he's moving around for while? Has his color improved in that last pic? I don't like it.

That antennata is off the hook LOVE IT!

Your drawings are also excellent.

I'm going to take a pic of mine, when the lights come on, using a flash. Maybe that's why it looks a little funky to me.... cause you use a flash.

Unfortunately we had a snow storm here this weekend and I lost power and lost my radiata and fuzzy dwarf. The tank got down to 66 degrees and they didn't make it =(
I still have the antennata and the zebra dwarf. I also finally got my mombasa last week and it is eating like a total pig. I love it!!! I also lost my zebra eel and my dogface puffer= but I am coping with the losses. We are getting a generator soon and I pray this never happens again.

Thank you all for your comforting words. It is definitely hard when you lose a fish let alone four that you have gotten to know so well and actually interact with you and kinda become like little friends just begging to be fed lol. I will miss all of them.

Sorry to hear that, what part of the state do you live in?

Just north of Boston. It wasn't so much the snow that caused it, it was a car crash in our neighborhood taking out the power lines.

In future, I have lots of tanks and you could always bring fish here - probably about 90 minutes to 2 hours away. So sorry for your losses.

Wow, that really sucks! Sorry for your loss! I bought a computer battery backup that lasts for 12 hours. I plug it into the wall and use it like a power strip for my vital equipment (heater, return pump). I did this because if I am sleeping or at work I have no problems for at least a couple of hours. Again, sorry for your loss!

Why should they pay me for my dead lionfish? They are not the same species as in the Caribbean. I really don't think you should keep posting the same thing over and over again on here. I know you are passionate about this issue, but it makes you come across a little abrasive and a little bit condescending. We are all aware of this problem. It's not going to stop the invasion by posting about it. If you are really passionate about this, I would suggest you take a vacation to the keys and participate in the lionfish derbies.

They should be paying you for the LIONFISH

Dude... Like I said in the other thread, those links are a smack in the face to us who keep them. Not cool.

OP, that really sucks that you lost four fish... I lost two Lions last summer when we lost our power. Tanks boiled. Generators are def. a good thing to have.
Looking forward to some Mombassae pics!

So sorry for your loss, that really sucks :-(

Steve B, give it a rest, being a caribbean native I agree something needs to be done, but your doing zero to help the cause posting to people who keep lionfish as pets. If you want to help get your a$$ down here from whatever parallel universe you live in and go round some up yourself, otherwise just shut up, none of us want to hear that crap, we all know what's going on and are tired of hearing from people like you who act like we are responsible for it. Go back 20 years ago and blame the people who were releasing them, not us
