Liopropoma swalesi color?

I was at a LFS today, and they had a large L. swalesi with VERY orange stripes, and a slightly smaller L. swalesi with yellowish orange stripes. Both very attractive. Frankly stunning when right next to each other in adjoining cubes.

Does the color mean anything? Does the fact that they hang out merely separated by a clear acrylic sheet without any aggression mean anything? Anyone paired this fish?

The DRsF&S compatibility chart suggests they do not get along. However I have no personal experience.

They should be fine if added at the same time given enough space assuming they don't enjoy each others company......i once had a swalesi added in after a L.rubre.....the swalesi submitted to the rubre for over a month or two, before they paired up!

Interesting. So is the significant color difference due to age, size, sex, just variation?....
