Live Rock Question

My tank has been going for about a month or so. I have just noticed a hole in one piece of LR has two red claws similar to a crab or lobster. This is all you can see and when you try to get close to the tank it jumps back into the hole. Does anyone know if this could be some type of crab that may have been inside the LR.

could be a crab or mantis shrimp, try and bait him out with a peice of shrimp on a wooden skuer, you may have to try at night, or try a flashlight with a red lens at night to try to see him, wait about 2 hrs after lights out

how much of the claws can you see?

Try checking out the tank at night...tie a piece of shrimp to rock (so it can't be pulled back into the hole), darken the room (as usual) and come back in an hour or two with a flashlight...red bulb/lens if you have one. See if you can catch the little guy dining.

Getting a good idea of who you have will help determine whether you will want to catch it or let it be. (There's a good sticky thread at the top of the All Things Salty forum on catching various types of fish and other critters.)

Thanks I will be shutting off the lights soon and try to see if it comes out.
