Well I need to make up my mind on getting a Starcki or not. Got the In Stock notification they have

SW - Starcki Damsel (Tonga) - Medium
CN-37564, $ 39.99

I pretty much can only have one more fish of any size and maybe a second fish of small size sand dweller.

Here is my current list.

Cherub Angel
Midas Blenny
McCosker's wrasse
Yellow Candy Hog Fish
Royal Gramma
Pair Mocha Ocellaris clowns

I think the Starcki is an amazingly beautiful fish and really want one but I'm on the fence

What to do? Open to suggestions

Did you get it? I got the notice too, and if it wasn't the last thing I planned to add to my tank, I would have snapped it up. :)

Yah by the time I got around to trying to order one they were sold out :hammer:

If you snooze you lose comes to mind

Isn't a starcki damsel kind of similar looking to your cherub angel? Blue body yellow head. I'm obsessed with making sure all of my fish have either unique shapes or unique colors compared to all my other fish. I realize others may not have this obsession however :twitch:

Not an obsession, but for practical reasons I'm trying to avoid putting fish with similar color pattern, shape and behavior together (unless they are of the same species) - it's too likely to cause fights or stress.

Yep. Me too. My tank is utterly peaceful and I want to keep it that way. Every fish has it's own area, if it sticks to one area. And the tank swimmers never bother anyone. All are totally different. It's kinda fun trying to find the perfect fish to occupy the exact areas I want. I added a small dry rock ledge to make a cave on the sand hoping my watchman would adopt it when I put him in, and he moved right in immediately. That was pretty satisfying. I have a clown goby in quarantine and my next fish is going to be a pajama cardinal. After that it's up in the air. But I've always wanted a green chromis. I know it's technically a damsel, as are the clowns, so it would be the first fish that could maybe possibly cause some aggression. But the clowns stick to one spot so I don't think they would cross paths often enough for it to be a problem. But I will reassess things after the cardinal goes in.

I do this too--different colors, different shapes, and different swimming areas/styles.

Yes it's the same colors as the Cherub for the most part, but I do like how the scales are outlined by black.

How about you guy's help me come up with a different fish that would be cool to have. I'm also thinking about a sand dweller but not one that will keep covering my corals. I had a Hector's goby and he was an amazing fish but constantly dusting my corals. Not sure what happened to him, just one day he didn't come out of his sleeping place and he was healthy and with me for about a year or more.

The Tiger Goby we have in our tank sifts but kind of sits on the sand as it does it so it doesn't go everywhere. He is definitely one of my favorites in the tank. He has a few different caves he uses which is nice and is often out swimming around doing his thing.

I will mention though that the first one we ordered was NOT an adventurer and was afraid of everything. He made it through three nights of QT before managing to get out of about a 1/4" gap in the lid. The second one came and was always right at the glass when we were right there. Definitely a luck of the draw as far as personality.

I wanted a sand dweller also and got one of ORA's watchmen. He has been a fantastic addition and gives the bottom of the tank a great little character. He looks like he is an old man yelling at the kids to stay off his lawn. Funny character.

I have a hoeven's wrasse and I can easily say she (soon to be he) is my favorite fish in the tank, she has never bothered any snails or crabs from what I can see, and she's never nipped at any of the corals.

Here is a pic of my hoeven's wrasse. Sorry for the bad picture.
