LiveAquaria switching from Fedex to UPS

I always pickup my livestock deliveries at the depot (if possible). I just figure that way the bags aren't sloshing around on the truck all day. It sounds like the impact of this change is going to be based upon your geographical location. If you live in area where UPS seems better than Fedex... it's great! If it's the other way around... this sucks!

I've lived a few places and it always seems one service or the other is more reliable in that particular area. On a nationwide basis it is probable a wash for F&S. For over-night, IMO, FedEx is the leader. I live in western N. Dakota. The nearest "LFS" is 135 miles away. UPS, like every company here in the oil patch, has trouble keeping help and it shows in service. Until a couple of months ago, the ONLY place to send a parcel via UPS was their depot- No UPS stores. The depot was open for package pick up daily, M-F between the hours of 4pm & 6pm!

Thankfully, a UPS store just opened in town. They will hold a live fish shipment BUT you must first set up a shipper account- cost $10. Then each package held for you, if you do not have a mailbox account, will cost an additional $5 per box. From the manager today. Said this was national policy- prices. Be curious to find out what others find.

Bottom line is F&S/ LA always offered the consumer a CHOICE. No longer

FedEx delivers my stuff to the rental office because they are too lazy to come to my apartment. The rental office is almost always unoccupied. It took me 2 weeks just to get an impeller from the office after it was delivered there! I could never let that happen with livestock!

I think it totally depends on where you live. We used to have a great UPS delivery man but he left the company. The new guy SUCKS! The FedEx guy is very reliable and friendly.

i dont think anything will change fed ex to ups.im 2 hrs from them and my order came quicker with ups than fed ex. You have to remember foster and smith ships thousands of packages everyday,so if fed ex keeps rasing the price they have to move on. Live aquaria is a top notch operation and has the best coustmer service.

+1

Good to know about the change. UPS has been much better to deal with when compared to FedEx. I have a good relationship with my UPS driver and text him when I'm expecting something important. FedEx has many different drivers on my route. Hard to establish rapport.

From all the posts it is as I said, our shipping experiences vary with our location and circumstances. There seems to be several references to FedEx RAISING their fees. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this. Frankly, F&S business decisions between their vendors are not our business. Their decisions that impact our service are. I DO NOT have any personal knowledge but I imagine UPS offered F&S a "deal" if F&S signed a exclusive contract for UPS to be the sole provider.

My problem is this: each consumer should have the option to use the best shipper based on their location and circumstances. F&S decision to make UPS the sole provider of shipping services takes that option away from us. Other mail order companies are doing the same thing.

I like options it makes for better service in the long run.
