i was just curious, im doin a side tank just a 20 gallon FO tank and i dont want to run a filter on this one how much liverock would be needed to be the only source of filtration, i heard buying a smaller piece and seeding it with other rocks in the tank would work but just wanted some more opionions, all the water is rodi water i just need some LR then fish

Depends on how fast you want to use the tank. Using 20lbs of cured LR means it is ready within a week. Uncured about a month and waiting to seed base rock with a little LR can take six months or more.

what type of fish are you planning on keeping in it? when you say fish i hope you mean one! i have never tried to run an aquarium with no source of filtration but i can't imagine that you could keep much more than 1 small fish and keep up on doing water changes

it works. get lots of rock and lots of flow and maintain water changes- That is priority- no slacking or just topping off til next week. Test religously as well.

Oh and add bio load very slowly to avoid spiking.
