Living Room Flood - my first big issue

I had a Coralife skimmer on an old tank and on thing I kept messing up on that made it overflow was I was trying to wet skim instead of dry skim which its intended to dry skim. I flooded my livingroom as well. So if you have the water level too high that could be an issue.
So to keep that from happening I did what erica has suggested and got this

I never had it overflow on me again

That's a terrible idea. While it may be working now, your skimmer may overflow for various reasons and start draining your tank into your utility sink. Next thing you know, you are down 50 gallons.

Not possible. My HOB skimmer the input is located in a overflow box. On my 180g I would loose 30g max and on the 90g tank I would loose 8 gallons

Hi there! Water damage in the house feels really bad. Water damage is the common problem which is caused due to various reasons. Maybe the pump is not working properly that causes the water flow and damage in the living room. I think you need to consult an expert to repair the pump. Similarly situation happens with my neighbors, few days back when water got overflow and causing damage in the house. After the damage detects they consulted a public adjuster Fort Lauderdale for filing a claim for water damage to get the repairing done.

If you gonna run waste to a bucket, I'd suggest a float swish that will shut off skimmer pump when bucket is near full

This is something that I'm wanting to do with my new aquarium but how is it done with a hang on the back skimmer?

Because I'm paranoid and I know one day everything that can fail will fail, I run my sump to a bucket, then that bucket back into the sump.

So far I've never had to worry about it, but say my urchin decided to breed one night and the skimmer goes nuts, it will just eventually pump it back into the sump when the bucket is full, and I can catch it in the morning.

I am generally more worried about saltwater damage to the house than I am about having the skimmate potentially ending up back in the tank where it came from originally.

Does anyone know if there is already a thread on here detailing how to add a float switch to a 5 gallon bucket? I'm clueless on how it could be done.

Reading this thread is making me paranoid about my own hob protein skimmer in my living room. I dont have any kind of overflow bucket or anything.

IRC coral life HOB skimmers don't have a waste fitting on the skimmer cup. So you would either have to drill the cup and add a drain fitting to use an overflow container or it looks like the product posted on the amazon link attaches to the cup.. just not sure if there is enough room between the neck and outside of the skimmer cup..

the sensors are mangnetic. So you can fit them anywhere (no drilling needed). I have a usual insump skimmer. So I dont know how to do it in your case. But I have a hose that connects the cup to a bucket. And the sensor is in the bucket. Once its full, alarm goes on and skimmer goes off.

I dont know if the company went out of business. I sent a facebook message a week ago and I still cant get a response.
