i cant believe that all the so called rays fans are gone. my wife won tickets to tonights game(friday night) and the stadium was was at most 60% full. last year they went to the world series!!!! now they are in a funk and cant sell tickets. its friday night against their arch rivals(boston redsox) and they cant sell out. that is a shame.

ime tampa fans are horrible. they are ban wagoners and dont honestly give a rats poop. im usually embarrassed to be a tampa fan our hockey was only hot when we were winning ive been in bucs playoff games where we were driving in the 4th and my entire section which was lower bowl didnt scream didnt do much of anything, our baseball fans dont know or give a crap its the town its the people in general no offense to any of you all good fans out there they are just few and far between

I would have been there donning Rays gear, but have a wife and 2 month old baby at home - should be able to make the game Sunday.

You are right though - should be much more packed. At least there were more Rays fans than Sox fans there - that's a first!

i was surprised to see the amount of empty seats too. figured that last season would have had a much more positive effect on ticket sales than this.

+1 on the fans of the Rays. I have been here 10 years and have been to many Red Sox / Rays games. It's a sad statement that the bandwagon fans of last year have for the most part gone away. I had many a discussion last year with the cowbell wielding junkies about not going to games the first half of last year. This area doesn't have the history the original MLB teams have. There is no tradition here and it is more like a circus atmosphere. Not knocking , just the truth.

I was there in a suite, sucker! Longoria is a friggin stud.

It's not that the fans are bad, the city doesn't have the storied history of baseball that most teams have. I think that's where the difference is.

at $15/pop for normal seats, the Mrs. and I will be going more often though. Always nice to see them dominate the sox even when they're losing to everyone else :)

Sonnanstine had me worried a bit last night tho.

you might be right about not having history but what happened to all those 2nd half of last years fans that were popping off on how theyve been fans forever and support the team? supporting a team doesnt mean only going to games when you are leading the division. as much as i hate the rays i was kinda hoping after last year a history for the rays was started. but i guess not. too bad.

mike, we had press level seats. if i knew you were there i would have crashed your suite and heckled you.

What's even funnier is if you look up my old redsox vs tb threads.

i would go to more games, but those damn cow-bells irritate the crap out of me.

there's nothing worse than paying to take the family to a game only to have some idiot behind you clanging a bell in your ear for 9 innings.

funny :) I was in suite 23, right above 3rd base. We'll all have to go to a few games. Can't beat it when tix are $15 each and nobody shows up, you can just move way down!

lol, I don't care about the Rays even if they are winning. Baseball is soooo boring. America's past-time my butt. Watching golf or tennis on tv might be the only sports that induce a nap faster than baseball. The lightning, now that is a different story, that is exciting no matter who wins. Hubby likes the Bucs and keeps up with what they're doing but due to his work schedule, season tickets aren't really feasible.

The reason Tampa fans are so fickle is because they all keep their allegiances to whatever city they moved here from. ONLY when the Tampa teams are doing well do they jump on the wagon. Thats just one of the negatives of living here.

I grew up a different fan (Braves) and lived elsewhere; now I'm raising a family and we're having a lot of fun working on a tradition here. We'll get to a 1/2 dozen games if we're lucky but watch the Rays every night. I think it will take a few decades to make people hard core. I was bummed to see the empty seats.

I must say.... I am a Philadelphia sports fan "born and raised in south jersey just outside of philly"... And I have been to several pro sports games in tampa. With that said....... Tampa fans are the biggest a-holes in the world. For example... A few years ago, the lightning and flyers where playing in the eastern confrence finals.. I went to game 2 i believe and the flyers won like 6-2. By the time the 3rd period began, 3/4's of the lightning fans left the building... 2 nights later was game 3. Close game all the way thru and the tampa fans werent making much noise or saying much at all. The lightning scored a goal with about 2 minutes left to take the lead, and then, and only then, did the fans start making noise... The game ended and tampa won. The entire way out of the arene people where yelling f-you, and get out of our house, etc..etc... completely classless.

A VERY similar thing happend 2 years ago when the Eagles played the Bucs. The game where Tampa won on a 63 yard field goal with 2 seconds left. For the most part, the fans didnt make much noise or say much the entire game, but as soon as they won, they where ready to talk so much smack their faces where turning blue.

Absolutly pathetic sports fans in that city.

Ive been to 300 KC Royals games before I left there and been to quite a few DevilRay/ Rays games since I moved here. It need to have some success before it will improve. Of course now that they are winning and soon to catch the teams ahead of them (same thing will happen as last year remember this post) the fans will show up. Kansas City was a exspansion and due to their early success they have a huge following across the country (they still stink but they have alot of fans even around here.)
The fans will show up, its early in the season too small market teams ALWAYS gain fans on success year after year.

i don't think you should be speaking much, as a philly fan. Your fans are known to be among the worst in sports! LOL

I guess your selective memory caused you to leave out how Phillie fans treated the Rays player's wives and children in the Series last year.
