Lomholts 230 g Reef Ceramic Only tank

I think it's important you determine what type of reef you want to achieve as that will make suggestions from fellow reefers much easier... there is so many options out there today from HM, T5 to LEDs.... :)

I'm using LED for my current tank so click on my red house for more info, if you're interested :)

FIY...

On the Streams if you cut the wires you will void the warranty.. Check with Roger in the Tunze forum, he's a great help..

Happy Reefing

Great input, I am sure he knows a lot and I will contact Roger (if I can find him).

However a friend of mine have tried to cut the wire and says that is is a easy task to connect the to ends of wires afterwards.

Definitely decide what you would like to keep. If its fish only flourescent lighting is all that is needed and its even good enough for some corals. LEDs are pricey, but think the ability to customize Kelvin temps is very nice and ability to simulate the lunar cycle is a cool effect too.

You are right, one of the first thing would be to decide what to keep. My choice is a mix between diffent hard- and soft corals. I have not the huge coral experience.

Talking about LED's, if a LED lamp should replace my 400 watt HQI MH lamp, how many watt does the LED then consume? Just give a guess or two so I have an idea. For sure LED sounds cool with the simulation modes and functions ;)

Water with 50 kg. live rocs to be placed in the sump.

My skimmer is on the top. It is a Bubble King 250 internal and it performes very well.

I like the low noice from this skimmer / Red Dragon pump.

I have a window right next to the skimmer, and think the sun light maby have impact on algaes. Could it be brown algae on the inside of the Bubble King? (se picture above).

Definitely looks like brown algae. This the web site for the LED lighting system http://www.solarisled.com/ Their new I-4 LED is suppose to be on the level of 400w MH. There isn't much literiture on the lighting yet, but I'm sure it will be out closer to when these lights are availible.

Nice Bubble King, would love to have one. How much is it in Denmark?

Thank you for the link mr evolution, that LED looks great! :)

The Bubble King costs 10.999 DKK (Danish crowns), which is about 2283 USD or 1474 Euro. I was lucky to buy a used one for about 800 USD.

You say that the LED is supposed to be on the level of 400w MH. That sounds good when it comes to the strenght of light.
But what i ment was, How many watt does the LED system use?? (It is because I want to know how much I can save on my electric bill) I hope it is significant less than a 400w HQI MH?

The company doesn't list the amount of wattage yet. But I also have the same question. I will try to call them and see if they will release it to me.

I would think as LEDs become stronger, their efficientcy will decrease. They only difference will be that the entire light output will be focused in one direction.

Hi mr. evolution. If you get any answers then you are welcome to copy/paste them here as I am very interested to hear about LED lightning, thanks.

It is time for a little update.

There are fishes in the tank!!! Let me know what you think.

The picture shows the period with brown algaes and hopefully you get an idea how it looks with water.

I have not had any phosfat problems with the reef ceramics backgound.

There is sand in the box, and som small coral frags and fishes as well, så if it has your interessest, I can upload a couple of pictures.

Beside that, I have installed the bubble king 250 and it runs very well.

I use two Tunze Stream 6100. You can see them in the end, where there is a kind of a handmade cave in the ceramic background, to hide them visually.

I have made a DIY hanging suspension to reduce noise and resonanse from the powerpull stream pumps.

In addition to that, I have ordered and installed the new Tunze Stream 6105 controllable and I am very happy about it.

Every stream pump is controlled by a 7095 multicontroller with wave functions, night mode etc.

I have also installed a Tunze Osmolator and raised the waterlevel in my sum about 2". My skimmer is performing a bit better now as the water level seems to be optimal.

My next project is to sound proff the sump and enclose the whole aquarium with wood plates of some kind ? ... so it looks like it is build into the wall.

The aquarium is places in our sitting room, so we really go after as low noise as possible.

Any comments and suggestions are very welcome :bum:

Here are photos for ya all...

Du you have any modification suggestions I could do to the rock work background and caves? ?

I think he made it.

Lomholt,

have you tried the Herbie method or the bean method for the silent tank threads. They suppose to work.
