Long term success with NSW

Sometimes I worry about how and where the LFS supplier is collecting their NSW.

Anyone care to share their experiences, be they negative or positive?

I used the NSW from Barrier Reef (store in Boca) for the 3-4 years that I had my 120g SPS tank set up. That being said, I did water changes every 3-6 months, but I never had a problem with their NSW quality or salinity. It's been a few years since I last used it though.

I use regular mixed salt for weekly water changes but once every month or so I change over 60% of volume using NSW.
Never had an issue

Marke has a very successful sps tank and unless something has changed I'm pretty sure he does periodic massive changes with nsw.

Used NSW for years without a problem, changed to mix just for convenience.
I did follow some guidelines that have been discussed in previous threads; collecting on the outgoing tide, use as soon as possible, keep aerated….

Any idea how long it can be stored if kept circulating and at proper temp?

Thanks for all the comments everyone.

I get 1500 gallons and it lasts a few months I just have a mag 3 in it for circulation never an issue

incoming tide would be better, or you would need a water change from the water change

Been using NSW from scripps in San Diego since 1979! Never an issue, SG @ 1.025 out of the spigot but do dose CA, ALK, & MAG

I've been using NSW for the last 15-years. Had one issue many years ago in Palm Beach, otherwise no problems. I get 300 gallons delivered bi-monthly and do 3-4 75-90 gallon water changes on ~220 gallons of water in the system.

x2 It is the incoming water you want, close to high tide so your getting that nice influx of ocean water. The outgoing water is going to be loaded with excessive nutrients (not to mention pollutants) from the ICW.

Started out myself using NSW from LI. Collected from the beach at high tide. When I was working in a marine lab, I would bring home water from our SW well. Now than I'm down here and running a marine science facility, I'm bringing home SW from our well here...which is quite nice and high in Ca and Mg :D

x3 "incoming" is what a meat to type. I am sorry rushing at work. I also never collected after rain, especially if prolonged rain.

I am not a fan of storing NSW, planned and used ASAP.

X4 flood tide if you want to take it a step further I would say just before high tide

I started my tank with NSW in 1971. No problems yet, I hear at 45 years old you get problems.
I walk out here with a bucket. I don't do anything to it besides filter out MP3 players, beach umbrella's and bikini tops
