I run a mix of USHIO 10k,& 12Reflux,& moved the nipple to the 12o-clock position on both bulbs today,& now the Ushio gives a Red Hue,& the Reflux seams kinda dull.
I just switched 1 week ago from Phoenix 14k.Both bulbs are DE 150w,on M80 balasts.

Im confused. How are you moving the nipple on a DE bulb? It just goes in one way.
I just installed a RL 12K DE bulb about a week ago and im getting a pretty yellow look with no hint of blue. Could i have gotten a bad bulb? Long burn in time? Am i missing something about the nipple on a DE bulb?
I know my emails with David at Coralvue were in June of last year and I posted it in one of the reeflux threads. I've also seen it posted in a couple of other threads but only concerning the SE reeflux bulbs or DE bulbs of any brand.Originally posted by ReefWreak
I'm really intrigued by this idea of the nipple orientation changing the colors and such, because I had always been under the impression that it never mattered, and no one has come forward with a manufacturer suggesting a specific orientation before, to my knowledge.
I went through the LB thread for the umpteenth time, and did notice where the orientation was mentioned a few times, but there were no comparison shots that I saw, and not much comparison of color in experiences, just suggesting the way to run it.
What this makes me wonder though, is whether the other manufacturer's bulbs really don't make a difference in orientation, or whether they've just never bothered to tell the hobbyists about it, or never thought it was important, even if it did make a difference one way or another.... Hmmmm.....
Look at the inner bulb on your DE's, there should be a visible nipple that can point up or down depending on how you install the bulb. Point the nipple up towards the sky.Originally posted by Solitaryensis

It's not just DE or 150's, coralvue suggests that the 250w SE bulbs run with the nipple between 12-3 o'clock.Originally posted by reefkoi
nevermind I read back a page and noticed you are talking about nipple orientation on 150 DE bulbs, I didn't know anyone used 150's anymore
Sure it can, it can be in the 12 o'clock or the 6 o'clock position.Originally posted by reefkoi
Yeah but a 250 DE cannot be rotated in a way that the nipple is in a different position, the sockets don't allow it.
I run 150's on my frag tank not 250's and assumed they were the same...you know what they say about assuming. My 150's definitely can be in either the 12 or 6 o'clock positions thought the 250's were the same. A little jack and coke never hurt anyone so pour away.Originally posted by reefkoi Honestly do you have 250 D.E. bulbs? Cause I do and it looks impossible unless I am completely missing something here.
250's can't be rotated like a 150 can, they aren't built that way...
Or do I need to go pour me a stiff Jack & Coke and have another look LOL
