Im trying to find a macro algae that my foxface will not eat i love the look of the planted aquarium but my foxface eats my caulerpa faster that it will grow. i prefer the leafy or fernlike types of algae but am open to all options. can someone point me in the right direction of some??

Consider removing the foxface, if you like macro algae. I grow Ulva in my display tank. I prefer using tangs as my apex herbivore for grazing down fast growing macro algae.

Try Gracilaria Hayi wth your Foxface. G. Hayi is bright red in color. With high calcium uptake, the leaves are brittle.

Understand this about the Foxface, it is a rabbit in your aquarium and requires much vegetable matter. You should feed him much live vegetable matter. Consider it good nutrient recycling.

i would like to keep the foxface if possible and find something he wont eat. if this is to optimistic i guess i will have to remove..

It seems like the only way to know, is to feed it a smorgasbord of macros. See what it doesn't like, there's your winner. You could also put the fox face in the quarantine tank for a while, so the macro can established.

IMO, for a fast growing macro algae I would suggest two different Caulerpa's both make good nutrient export with prunning and removing or nutrient recycling as food for foraging fish.
Caulerpa Proliferia is good to its name. It will go deep in any substrate. If it gets on your live rock it is difficult to remove. Some use it as an imitation Oar Grass. I like its dark emerald green blades as they undulate in the current.
Caulerpa Paspoides with lacy fern like texture to its leaves are very attractive in light currents. Because of the fern like texture, C. Paspoides is more likely to be grazed on. If attached to live rock, the holdfast of C. Paspoides are more easily removed.

if you want a really pretty yet impossible to get rid of macro, you can get dictyota. rabbits will eat it but only if desperate. It does get EVERYWHERE though. and is nearly impossible to get rid of (somehow mine has chilled out).
