Looking for a top notch fish store

I'm looking for a nice fish store with a variety of healthy fish. I'm so tired of my LFS's. They get the same ole fish in every week and are all very unhealthy(starving, ich, fin rot)a the employees lie to you just to make a sale. Does anyone have a LFS that actually cares about their fish? I would be willing to take a half hour to hour drive out of the way if it meant that I'd be buying a fish that wouldn't die in a week.

I always had good luck with Aquarium Center in Encino on ventura...I dont remember the exact address. Their fish always seemed healthy, the salespeople seemed knowledgable and would actually refuse to sell something to you if you didnt have the right size/setup/not yet cycled, and if the fish happened to pass away you have like 2 weeks ot bring it back and if your water isnt toxic they would replace the fish for free. Hopefully none of that has changed since I last was there some months back.

What stores are you going to?
Total Tripical has nice stuff. Frag Farmer has super nice stuff (no fish but he can get you whatever you want).
I usume your going to the fish store by Myabi and Marshals... hehe

PS. how old are you? if your old enough to drive yourself and are seriouse about wanting top notch, your gonna have to drive more than half an hour away. ;)

Total, is a good example of what I was describing above, they weren't that way a year ago but have gone down hill since IMO. I've been to frag farmer a couple times but wasn't aware that they could order fish for you, i'll have to check that out. No I never buy anything from that place by Marshals but occassionally go in there just incase something has changed. The stores that I usually go to but rarely buy anything from are Total, Jan's, USA Fish(on Arrow Hwy), Pasadena tropical fish, and Jeff's.

I'm 21 (my mommy calls me her big boy), and am fully capable of driving, and like I said i'd be willing to drive a 1/2-1 hour away or even further if a place was really worth it.

last time I was at AQ center, just about all the fish in their store looked unhealthy.

Marks is expensive, but the fish always look good.
also vivid aquariums has good healthy stock

Vivid aquarium s your best bet in the SF valley and you can also visit The big fish like 5 minutes away on Plummer ask for Patricia very helpful and very easy on the eye.

Ev, Ill take Vivid Aquariums any day man...lol

Might want to clear things up, people now might think you are the owner of that fish store, the way you wrote that. lol

i wish i was the owner that way i would not have to pay big money for fish n coral, an i still think aquarium city has more fish than vivid.

Heehee I used to go to aquarium city alot...but poor sean ripped me off one too many times ( mandarins are easy! they eat pods and love small pellets, very easy to keep....wanna buy my used seaclone for $140? its a bargain! ) so Im waaaaay more cautious walking in there- if I havent researched the fish/coral/critter to death before walking in I wont buy it no matter how pretty it is. Yes, I know its common sense now, but when I was just getting started I swallowed everything I was told like the noob I was.

Its still a good store tho, and I liked being able to earn some credit for all the dead things I kept replacing when I was getting started

and yeah, it also has some fish/critters I havent been able to see in person at many other shops- I'm too paranoid of some online sites since I cant pick what Im buying.
