looking for active, bright, inexpensive fish

Bee grouper fish. I saw one at the store today and was thinking of trading in some of my coral for him. He is a dark defined black with bright yellow squiggles.
Did it look like this?:

At an adult size of nearly 9 feet and 800 pounds, I don't think a 57g tank would work... :hmm3:

This may sound 'old school' and seem dumb ay first but.....

There is nothing more colorful than a tank full of assorted damsels and a clownfish or two:
They are inexpensive...
They are very active...
They are almost bullet proof...
They come in a variety of colors...
They will not outgrow your tank!

I would put several of each: Yellow tail damsels (can substitute any blue and yellow damsel), Talbots damsels (yellow and lavender), 3 stripe dacyllis, domino damsels, and a Tomato or two percula anemone fish. Add a Royal Gramma and you have a beautiful mix of colors. Best of all, they are all 'reef-safe' and allow you to grow any coral you want without fear.

Yes, these are agressive fish but, if you add several of each, they will spread the aggresion out and no one gets picked on. There is constant activity and color in your tank.

Fish don't have to be expensive and 'difficult' to maintain to acheive a sense of accomplishment and a beautiful tank.

The one I saw had less yellow. Other then that they were exactly the same. I was going to buy him but it was $190. I have spent my limit on my tank until I get a job.

Couldn't agree more on the damsels.

I have a pair of flame hawkfish in a much larger tank but I think they are fine in a 57. You can find a pair on occasion on DD (where I got mine). They are a riot to watch the interaction together.

Consider this fish. It is a very docile fish for a damsel. You cannot find a bluer fish. A small group will be very active and breed in your tank. I got 3 in my 65 gal for 8 years. They spawned all the time, every 10 days or so. (picture from VividAquarium.) This fish fit your bill to the teeth. Bright color, hardy, active and cheap.

Inexpensive and hardy as any fish you can get. Has the most personality of any fish I have ever had and it is beautiful to boot. Oh yea won't jump........Flame Hawk!

Naoko fairy /flasher wrasse stay small but you have to put a lid on your tank just incase
One of the most colorful fish I own and they don't jump IME they stay in the bottom of the tank and flashes all day.
